When did we look bad against USC? We went on an 18-0 run in the first half and the game was never in any doubt after that. We beat them by 21 while playing our second line most of the game.

There were a few bad stretches in the game but both teams were bad. Just run down the court and throw up a bad shot to see the other teams do the same for several possessions in a row.

:yeahthat:

Not sure about that. We looked bad against USC for a long stretch. They just aren't a good team. What I will say is having beaten them, maybe it gives them confidence. But you know USC fans are probably saying, the "Buffs were hungrier" after losing to UCLA. It is what it is. Beating UCLA was going to be tough no matter when we played them.
Doesn't look like a bad game to me...

Average offensive rating of 118.1, held USC to 41.5% shooting, 25% from 3, out rebounded them by a good margin both offensively and defensively, and 10 blocks. That's a pretty dominating game from us considering we just lost our best player two games earlier.

We played lazy on defense for a while in the second half, but 56% shooting is a fantastic game, idc who you are playing against.

I will take that "bad performance" against a conference foe every time. That was probably our most complete game this year on offense and defense and without our best player. Yea, there was a stretch of rushing our shots on offense in the 1st half, but I don't have a problem with that against sea level teams trying to run. In fact, I wish we would run more at home and press more, but alas, Boyle is still trying to figure out lineups, so I understand a slower tempo post Dinwiddie.

Also, that was Booker's most complete game ever as a Buff. He did his best Dinwiddie impersonation leading the team.

USC has a few good wins this year too (Xavier and at Dayton), so they aren't that bad as some of the teams from our non conference.

If we play like that at home, I don't see us losing again except against Arizona because they are so talented.

If that is the Ski we get next year, I will feel a lot more comfortable without Spencer. He looked good. Really good. Just need Jaron and XT to stay as aggressive as they were against USC. Also, some more of those dirty, fake behind the back, driving layups. Lots more.

The only solution to the slight of being unranked is to win at Arizona this week. Take down the Cats and then whip the Devils.

17-4 (6-2) will put this season right back on track.

The cats can claim we aren't a rival yet, but if we upset their perfect season...

The game was never in doubt. The beginning of the game we didn't look too good. USC is a terrible team. You can still look bad and win a game.

I'm going with my eyes not a stat sheet. I don't think we played a great 40 minutes.

True, but I think we were trying to go for a knockout blow to USC and that is great to see, but we aren't at that point yet.

Opening a game 20-2 doesn't look too good??

The only thing that I didn't like in that 2minute stretch that Tante posted is the amount of jump shots. That is not our game.

Hey we won by a lot, so we had a great game.

Holy hell, tante. You picked out a 2 1/2 minute stretch with Eli and XT getting their first game action of the season together in a new lineup that had them as the only guards on the court.

Looks like the scoring was 3-3 over that stretch. That's nothing. I'll take a tie in the +/- every damn time we play that lineup. That's an effective 2 1/2 minutes getting Ski some rest. Tad got exactly what he wanted going into that TV timeout.

I'm talking about the whole game, not just the opening. I think I answered your question. Go back and watch the whole game and tell me if you think we played 40 minutes of sound basketball. We basically had an off-day, USC was an 11 point underdog, which I'll admit I thought was too high (I was wrong).

A stat sheet tells a pretty damn good story of the game. I will take a team average ORtg of 118.1 every single game, especially when you combine it with how we played defensively and how well we blocked shots. I'm not really sure what more you want.

But just going off that, doesn't account for bad stretches we had. I'm not saying stats aren't important, just doesn't tell the whole picture and there were times that game we didn't look too good.

40minutes? No. 30-35 absolutely. They play like that and they will hang with just about anyone left on the schedule. They will need a truly special performance to knock off UofA. Their back court is too talented.

This is ridiculous. Apparently, to have played well according to a couple of you, we should've continued that 20-2 pace over the entire game and should have won 200-16.

The team played well. They didn't play perfect. It was a good performance against a team that isn't really that good.

hey I'm just trying to prove that it was not perfect game and we did play some bad stretches of basketball. :devil2:

Actually JG might has some stats, but it seems like we took way to many long jumpers in this game? I feel like our shot ratio was way off.

Buffs don't take a high volume of 3 point shots. Even so, every time an offensive possession ends with a jump shot instead of a post-up or drive to the basket I'm not totally happy with it.

One thing I do think that was going on, though, is that Tad was trying to show a new wrinkle to UA and ASU. If Wes and Josh can knock down some jump shots it will move those opposing bigs away from the hoop and open things up. Could be a big key to both of these games.

Once we got up by 18, we really did take a lot of jump shots. If they can start knocking them down them I am all for it. But that really isn't our game.

How does it not account for the bad stretches? It's not like a two minute sequence is thrown out when you are calculating them. The sum of the whole is greater than the individual parts. Do you really expect a team to play great for 40 minutes? That's completely unrealistic to expect, it's even more unrealistic to expect a team who lost it's best player a few games before where you are trying to find what lineups work best in less than a week.

Yeah I think we'd lose to UofA by 15-20 playing like that on the road, 10-15 at home. I don't think we would've beaten UCLA with our performance on Saturday if they play like they did on Thursday.

No I don't expect them to play great for 40 minutes, but they looked pretty bad to me at times. You can stop pulling up your stat sheets with win % or overall stats. I already said the game was never in doubt.

So then what the **** do you expect? You haven't said that. I'm not saying we played perfectly, but when have we played a perfect game in your eyes? EVERY team looks bad at some point during the game, 99.9% of the time you're not going to ball out perfectly for 40 minutes.
