Should Bohn hire Calhoun to replace Hawkins?

I'm only luke-warm on Calhoun. Expand the search beyond the state borders.
i wont say yes i wont say no... it too early to tell... ITB do you honestly believe McCartney at age 70... who hasn't coached since 1994... when some of these kids were 2... is the absolute best option...... im not saying calhoun is the best option, he may well be...

we have been over this before-
Mac would be fine by me IF he brings in great assistant coaches (he already knows this is important)
I'm not sold that Calhoun has the "coaching tree" to do so plus he has no west coast ties and he's not charismatic- in last nights AFA game
where the Zoomies lost to SDSU he reminded me of Hawk that way he looked on the sideline... no fire
I'm all for a national search.

I can respect that. I think he's head and shoulders over Hawk, but that shouldn't be the reason we hire him.
so am i... but if calhoun is the best man for the job... or the best man who will take the job:lol: im all for it... he is definitely my favorite as of right now

He is Hawkins 2.0. Or perhaps even Hawkins 1.1.
Calhoun has rarely played BCS level opponents. His only BCS victory was over Notre Dame in 2007. Nope. Not an upgrade over Hawkins, at all. I would just assume they keep Hawkins, if the plan is to hire Calhoun.

This is exactly how I feel. Bohn can't afford to get this one wrong - ADs rarely get to hire 2 head football coaches, and never get a 3rd chance.
It won't happen, but I would honestly rather hire Chris Peterson than Troy Calhoun even if it means going back to the Boise well. Peterson beats BCS teams eveery season and has a top 3 team right now. Calhoun has never and will never do that at AF.

The main question here is why would Calhoun leave? He's at his alma mater, and he's doing things there that are pretty unprecedented for an academy.
Not sure he sees CU as the goldmine that we do.

Look past the first line on the resume, and he and Hawk have pretty much zilch in common.
He's dealt with pro egos. Think he can hang. Obviously likes living in Colorado. Think he could win with the guys on the roster now. Winning and having NFL contacts will draw recruits.
A 'yes' depending on who he can corral for coordinators. If I were Bohn I would want to know who he's bringing along first.

I voted no because I'm not sold he is the best person for the job - too many questions about recruiting, assistant coaches, etc. However, he is not tied to the option offense. He was the OC for the Houston Texans (a pro style offense) and for Wake Forest, where they set all kinds of offensive records.
Troy Calhoun has coached offenses in the NFL. He's not a triple-option coach, it's just what he has to go with given he's at an academy. That shows me he's resourceful, flexible and smart.
Secondly, I'm convinced that any guy who can recruit at an academy (i.e. find good players) can do it better at a Pac12 school. He'll be fine and once the program starts "OVERACHIEVING", recruiting takes care of itself. It's not about medicine oil sales. It's about pitching credability and Troy Calhoun has it in spades. He knows how to find good assistants (he lost his DC, and they are just as good with the next guy). He is the offensive mind and a proven CEO.
CU will have a tough time doing better than a PROVEN CEO who knows how to build football teams.
My two cents:
-Don't hire a High School Coach (Logan)
-Don't hire a pro coach who hasn't led at least an offense or defense (Bienemy)
-Don't hire a DC or OC, he may not be a good leader without his Nicky Saban (McElwain)
Which leaves you with the safest pick which is an up and coming HC at the college level who has proven he can recruit Calif., be an effective CEO, and preferably is the DC or OC (in effect) of his team. Why? Because CU can't afford 2 good ones, just one. A guy like Peterson is the OC in effect. He needs a good DC to go with him. That's where Hawkins failed the test. He was never an OC or DC and he has proven unable to hire good ones.
I'm not stuck on Calhoun and I prefer a wide search, but he does satisfy the last item as he's a OC and a proven CEO. There are others out there for sure. SDSU hired a pretty good one when they got the Ball State guy.
This is the model that delivered D'Antonio to MSU and his successor to Cincy from Central Michigan, Jim Tressel to OSU, Urban Meyer to Utah/Florida and the list goes on. There's a long list of guys who have moved from DC/OC jobs to HC, but a long list of epic failures. It's way more risky imo.
