Simon was born with cystic fibrosis. He also battles Type 1 diabetes and a heart condition.
Through a wonderful organization called Team IMPACT (a nonprofit organization that helps children with life-threatening and chronic conditions by bringing them together with sports teams), Simon announced his commitment to join the CU Track & Field program and has been practicing with the team.
When Simon joined the Buffs, he had little confidence in physical activity. That has changed.
"He would get pretty out of breath," Jill says. "Now he's chasing them around like crazy. They get him into exercise in a way he would never even try with us. But he doesn't even know he's doing it, really, because he's just having so much fun with them. That's what's really great about it. We just hope that, through this, he'll develop more stamina and feel more encouraged to exercise and participate in sports."
