MAC suspends 2 refs for failing to call foul on Ball State in 2OT win
6:15 PM ET

YPSILANTI, Mich. -- The Mid-American Conference has suspended two officials who failed to blow a whistle during the chaotic final seconds of a double-overtime game between Eastern Michigan and Ball State.

In a statement Sunday, the conference said errors in judgment "must be met with swift and firm disciplinary action."

Ball State defeated Eastern Michigan with a 3-pointer Saturday. Before the basket, the officials didn't stop play, despite Ball State's aggressively stripping the ball from Eastern Michigan's Ethan Alvano and an apparent traveling violation.

MAC commissioner Jon Steinbrecher said the final play "was not handled appropriately."

Two of the three officials were suspended for two games and won't work the conference tournament. Their names were not released.
