Thought I might as well start this thread, as the Championships are only a few days away. I'll add more details once things like the cubuffs.com preview article become available.

Best wishes to the 13 Buffs competing!
(I also pasted the below tweet in the prior thread for the NCAA Preliminaries thread, but obviously it is as much (if not more) applicable to this thread.)

Schedule of events - https://www.ncaa.com/championships/trackfield-outdoor/d1/events
(As was started a few years ago, the 4 days are broken out to 2 days each with only men and women competing (other than one of the men's and women's multi-event days overlapping). This year, the men's championships will be competed on Wednesday and Friday, the women on Thursday and Saturday.

Note- Haven't thought or read too much on whether this scheduling approach is overall a positive or negative thing. The one main negative I can think of is, especially for a distance school with some elite talent like CU has, it makes it tougher (but not impossible) for those distance runners to double, except for the 10K/ 5K. (These longest races are the only ones that don't have preliminary heats, and are late in the day on different days, so runners who do that double do get a day's rest between races (although of course coming back from a 10000M will have to have SOME effect on how well/ hard they can run the the 5000M). All the other running events have heats and then finals, which means anyone trying to double (or triple) will have at least 2 races in one if not both of their race days.)

Live Video Coverage - Unlike cross country (which must be one of if not the only NCAA Championships in ANY sport competed that requires a premium paid website subscription to watch), have to give props to the NCAA and ESPN for these championships, as it looks like live coverage is extensive.
  • Evening (and partly afternoon on Saturday) running events (in addition to I assume some field and multi-event highlights) are being televised on ESPN or ESPN2:
    • Wednesday, 6/5 (Men's semifinals and 10000M final) - ESPN2 - Starts 5:30 PM MT (scheduled to end at 9:00 PM MT)
    • Thursday 6/6 (Women's semifinals and 10000M final; day one of men's decathlon) - (Edit) ESPNU - Starts at 6:00 PM MT, then moves over to ESPN2 at 7:00 PM MT (scheduled to end at 9:30 PM MT)
    • Friday 6/7 (Men's finals; day one of women's heptathlon) - ESPN - Starts 6:30 PM MT (scheduled to end at 9:00 PM MT)
    • Saturday 6/8 (Women's finals) - ESPN2 - Starts 2:30 PM MT (scheduled to end at 7:00 PM MT)

Edit- wanted to add a couple things more in case anyone is interested:
  • As is I believe very common for team track meets, scoring for these championships is as follows, with the top 8 finishers earning points as follows 1st place - 10, then 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
  • In addition to points, assume it is an incredible honor to be named an All-American. All-American status in track is purely determined based on how an athlete finishes in these championships. The top 8 finishers earn 1st Team honors, 9-16 earn 2nd team honors, and 17-24 earning Honorable Mention.

BOULDER – The University of Colorado track and field program is prepped and off to Austin, Texas, for the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships that begin Wednesday and run through Saturday.

13 Buffaloes will take to the track this week with eight making their outdoor nationals debut. Dani Jones, Val Constien and Kaitlyn Benner are all making their third appearance at the championships for CU, while John Dressel and Makena Morley are making their second. Eduardo Herrera, Ryan Forsyth, Maja Wichhart-Donzo, Michaela Wenning, Gabby Scott, Valerie Welch, Dani Johnson and Eriana Henderson are all in their first championships.

The men begin the meet and will compete Wednesday and Friday with the exception of the decathlon athletes. The women compete Thursday and Saturday except for the heptathletes which begin on Friday. CU will have an athlete competing every day of the competition.
...

All four days of coverage will be on ESPN with running events on ESPN 2 Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Friday's coverage will be ESPN, while all field events are available to stream on ESPN 3. For a complete schedule of coverage, click here.

Wanted to mention there's been a few nice articles in Buffzone (all by Pat Rooney) profiling a few of the senior Buffs heading to Austin (Steepler Val Constien and 10000M runners Kaitlyn Benner and Ryan Forsyth)-

Due to potential weather issues, tomorrow's schedule has already been revised twice.

Edit- Also wanted to note it's looking like it's supposed to be really tough weather-wise for the women on their final day Saturday, as it's supposed to be the hottest day, and the schedule has the meet finishing that day before nighttime.

Another senior profile article from Buffzone/ Pat Rooney, this time on hurdler/ sprinter Gabby Scott, the 1st Buff to qualify in the 400M hurdles since 1996..

Also, I was curious- it looks like, at least per the below tweet, ESPN2 coverage has been moved up tomorrow (now starting at 3:00 PM MT) to accommodate the earlier start times for the track events as listed in the Tweet in my prior post. (With the pretty big time gap before the 10000M's are still scheduled to start, hope they are still viewable either on ESPN or, at minimum, via a stream.)

(With the schedule change, the 1st Buff in action for the championships, Eduardo (Lalo) Herrera in the 1500M semis, is now scheduled to start at ~3:16 PM MT tomorrow.)

It sounds like tonight's men's 10000M will be available via stream rather than TV due to the revised schedule (which moved the times up for all events EXCEPT for the 10000M).

And, looks like there was "great" weather for the start of the Championships. (The 1st event, the decathlon 100M sprint, did get completed so, on the bright side, at least there must not have been lightning in the area at that point.)

Nice start to the Championships, as sophomore Eduardo Herrara qualifies for the final in the 1500M as the 2nd of 2 time qualifiers in what thankfully turned out to be a faster 2nd of 2 heats!

Hopefully they built some flexibility in the schedule (only decathlon events are going on this afternoon), but could end up being a LATE evening (once again***) for some of the women today. (***A weather delay in Tuscon during the West Prelims approx. two weeks ago had the women's 10K starting after midnight.)

Stupid question on scoring: For the two men that finished 10th and 12th in the 10,000 last night, did they earn points for the team?

No- only the top 8 finishers earn points. (Edit- I explain the points scored and so forth near the bottom of the original post.)

Individually, though, they did earn (2nd team) All-American status by finishing in the top 16. (Top 8 finishers earn 1st Team honors.)

Yay!- the weather has cleared in time for the women's track races, and coverage has started on ESPNU.

Announcers also say that, at least as of now, it's cooler than yesterday. Hopefully that holds through the 10000M race later this evening.

I think that they said that the track events are all going to be on time.

The 2nd heat of the steeplechase prelims with Val Constien is about to begin

With 2 laps to go, she's currently in 3rd and in a good position to advance as their's a lead group of 5

Senior Val Constien qualifies for the finals in the steeplechase VERY comfortably with an auto-qualifying 4th place finish! (The top 5 and then 4 got a comfortable lead by the half way point of the race, so she never had to sprint or push it to the finish.)

Edit-

Gabby Scott coming up in a couple of minutes in heat 3 of the 400m hurdles

Now about a 15 minute break until Kaitlyn Benner and Makena Morley compete in the 10,000m final

Kind of like the men's race, did NOT look like the Buff women 10000M runners enjoyed the heat. They still both earn 2nd Team All-American honors, with junior Makena Morley finishing 11th and senior Kaitlyn Benner 16th.

4X400M team on deck, with the Buffs in heat 1.
