WBB hosting WSU (Friday at 6:00)

Tough quarter, as it sounds like Buffs pretty much couldn't hit anything until late in the 3rd. Down 50-39 heading to the 4th.

Some stats courtesy of Brian Howell that illustrate the game:
• CU was 0-9 coming into this game when trailing at the end of the third quarter.
• The Buffs outscored WSU 38-12 over the last 11+ minutes of the game.
• Kennedy had her fifth double-digit 4th quarter of the season.

Beginning at the end of the first half and continuing until the end of the third quarter the Buffs were dead in the water. They couldn't hit the broad side of a barn and were missing free throws as well. At the same time Wazzou got their mojo going on the shooting front which go them a 14 point lead. Near the end of the third CU slapped on a trapping press that produced a ton of turnovers and completely took the Cougars out of their comfort zone. It didn't hurt that the Buffs got their shooting act together.

Kudos to the Buffs for not giving up when nothing was going their way. They looked very disheartened at the end of the third quarter but finished the game with exuberance.

What a game!. I have seen this team get into so many deep holes in third quarters, fight to get back to a close game then not be able to get over the hump and get the win. I feared tonight would be deja vu all over again after the Buffs clawed their way back to a 51-51 tie after being down 14 late in the third quarter. But tonight they kept up the pressure and the scoring until they built a nice lead then held on thru the stretch for a good win. Kennedy Leonard is definitely "Miss 4th quarter". Things she misses earlier she makes in the fourth, especially free throws with the game on the line.

The players did not give up. Despite playing poorly in the 3rd quarter, it was fun to watch the team get their act together in the 4th quarter, especially Kennedy, and earn the W.

I do hope Eleanor Jones' flu bug goes away. Sounded on the radio like she has been very sick this week.

Give credit to JR for not letting the team give up. She said in the television interview at halftime the key to winning was the boards and they hit the boards in the second half.
