In addition to Allbuffs, I spend time on another forum that is dedicated to a hobby that appeals to those that have the means to contribute considerable $ums to a University. A thread was posted in a member section of the board asking where posters went to college and what thier major was. It was an interesting thread since most people that post in the section where the question was asked tend to be very successful. I was surprised to see that most had either degrees from public universities or had never graduated college.
The most interesting thing to me, though was the attachments that people included when responding. The only pictures in the whole thread were pictures of football stadiums full of fans, National Championship trophies, and USC cheerleaders. These affluent people, with disposable income to contribute, see the football team as an immense source of pride, and in many cases the only tie back to the university that they graduated from. There wasnt any pictures of Noble Prize winners, physics buildings, or university presidents, not even a basketball picture. It is the football team that people refer to when they talk about thier old university.
The administration at CU has really stepped on thier dicks with the Hawkins situation. I understand the political aspects of keeping Hawkins, but to allow him to continue with no changes in staff or philosophy is a huge blunder by the people in charge of CU.
The definition of insanity is to continue doing what you have always done and expecting different results. There have been no changes at Dal Ward, and I expect the same results that we have been getting. While it would have been costly to institute the changes that need to occur with the football program, it going to be even costlier to continue on the path that has been taken. The longer we continue this path the harder it will be to fix, and it will be even harder to replace the revenue that will be lost with the interest in our football program.
I knew how important the football program is to my attachment to the university, I just didnt realize how many people share the same opinion. Without a strong football program alumni money is going to be scarce. I dont think the jokers who are making the final decisions realize how important it is to have a strong football program, and how short-sighted it is to allow things to continue the way that they are.
