Winning is fun. Hell, it's AWESOME! But with it comes a new set of problems.
  • Before this year, I had trouble getting my wife or kids to go to a game with me. But now, my kids are fighting over who gets to go. I have to be Solomonesque.
  • Before, I could drive up an hour or so before the game and find a spot on the street a few blocks from the school. Now I have to get up there at least a couple of hours early and pay to park.
  • It used to take a couple of minutes to get in through the gate. Now I have to head to the gate a minimum of 30 minutes before kickoff.
  • I used to be able to stretch out in my seat with my drink sitting next to me and my feet on the empty seat in front. Now I have to sit there all cramped with my feet under me, my knees together and my hands in my lap. I'm forced to touch people.
  • I never used to get stressed at games while enjoying the view and watching the guys lose. Now I'm stressed all week and twice as much on game day.
  • I used to be able to leave early or even at the end, hop in the car and be homeward bound in no time. Now I stay after the game and by the time I get to the car, I have to fight a huge traffic jam getting out of town.
  • Now, when I wear my Buff gear, I find myself having to actually interact with total strangers.

This.

I have had more people say things to me the past few weeks than in the past few years combined. In the Home Depot parking lot today, random stranger sees my sweatshirt and says "go buffs!"

I went to McDonalds Saturday morning and there was a table with 4 HS guys. I heard this "Go Buffs!" I asked them if they were going to watch the (Stanford) game and they all smiled and said, "Yes sir!" Polite little bastards. Actually big bastards.

Same with the Cubs. Moved to Wrigley about 3 years ago. Would buy $5 tickets mid-week and sit wherever. Before I left this summer, tickets were consistently around $100 for good seats.

The flexibility & cost were nice, but it was way more fun with a stadium full of people interested in the game.

Great to have some fair weather CU fans again.

I know I'm not the only guy who half- expected a picture of this guy when I clicked this thread:

I am experiencing the same things as DBT on game days now. Before this year the most Buff love I have gotten in a long time was on Mackinac Island in 2015. Had 6 people yell "Go Buffs" at me that day, even a guy in an ASU shirt. Now people at work come up now and ask who the Buffs play each weekend. It is good to have people take notice, and new fans coming on board each week.

It used to be that by mid week, at least two of our eight tickets would be available and I would ask around the office if anyone would like them (and they were free). I have been asked if tickets are available and they are willing to pay.

Also, two of the janitors are wearing brand new CU hats around the office. The bandwagon is starting to fill.

Wow, even the CSU and Nebraska degree holders have jumped on the bandwagon!

Tailgating is more of an adventure as well. Used to be we could show up 4 hours before kickoff and have our choice of spots. Against ASU, we got one of the last spots in the lot. Gonna have to start showing up 5 hours early and see how that works.

Agree on all accounts. Was driving home to watch the ASU game and my whole family in the car with me, we all had our gear on...I have CU license plates as well. Anyway I noticed this guy behind me kind of driving erratically. He pulls up beside me rolls his window down and takes his hat off shows it to me going 55 mph and yells GO BUFFS!!! My wife just laughed and my two boys were just like...woah wtf is wrong with that guy. In my mind I was saying there is nothing wrong with him...he might have been waiting just as long as I have to tell anybody and everybody how proud he is to be a BUFF....or he just wanted to be a part of the The Rise and jump on the bandwagon...either way I kindly tipped my hat and yelled back GO BUFFS!!! It's a good thing.

I think I might need to change my screen name on Allbuffs, as there is now a real possibility that one of my co-workers is reading this website.

"Tidy Whitey" is available. [no racist]

Initially, they'll be suspicious that you're the same hiking, VT and converted CU fan that loves the Grateful Dead and other jam bands who is constantly sharing pictures of hikes and rafting trips at work.

But then they'll enter the pet peeve thread and remember the guy at work NEVER complains about anything, so this can't possibly be the same person.

That's me. I'm that guy. If you have on any kind of CU gear on at all, I will give you a "Go Buffs". Have done it for years. In the past when we were sucking, I would get some really funny looks. Most look at me like, Holy ****, that dude spoke to me. Or they look at me like, why did he say that to me? Like they forgot what they have on.
I will give a "Go BUFFS!" to anyone, anywhere and I don't care who hears me.

GO BUFFS!

In an underground restaurant not far away (Annapolis), I was having dinner the other night next to a family visiting their midshipman. The mid started talking up Navy football, and after a short conversation, the mom started talking how great the Buffs were doing, how much they'd beat Navy by, and so on. I gave them a polite "Go Buffs!" on my way out.

Checking around I discovered you forgot to mention this:

" I used to yell, "Get off my lawn!" with real conviction. Now I invite strangers with CU gear to have a seat on my lawn, offer them a glass of lemonade and discuss the latest Buff news."

I would definitely do that!! I love lemonade. I buy it by the gallon.

On a related note. I haven't gotten to a game yet this year (and seen the crowds) and am debating when to get down to boulder for UCLA. Was thinking of leaving around 1:30 to head down. What is everyone else doing?

What this recent respectability means is that the current group of students will have good memories and give great support to the team throughout the future years. Buffs lost a decade of grads in their wander through the wilderness. Local and regional kids who might not end up going to Boulder will remember the excitement and always support their local team into adulthood. A bit of success can go a long way, especially with an institution that has a century's worth of goodwill. Winning cures a lot of past ills.
