Official Construction Update Thread

Plus, they're grading Franklin and getting ready for sod. At least I hope they put natural grass in and not frigging artificial turf.
They NEED to put down artificial turf. If they plan to continue to use that field for tailgating, they're just going to piss off a bunch of big donors who will get bumped out of the lot 2-3 times a year after a snow storm or big rain. Put down the fake stuff and keep it available every weekend. Don't go cheap at this point.

**** you. I want them to put in something that will allow us to still tailgate there.
They wouldn't let you tailgate on the FieldTurf anyway.

Its going to be sod, they want practice fields that mimic the conditions of Folsom. Don't want to have only FieldTurf fields and then have to actually play on grass.

Thus that lot is going to be closed to the public for good.

This makes no sense. They won't let us tailgate on field turf, but will allow it on grass? Whaaaa?

I am going to pretend you never said this and we will just both walk away. Deal?

They need a grass practice field, man. Too bad for the tail gaters. They ought to invest in mats that can be moved in and out. Our put in geogrid, though I don't know if you can use geogrid on an athletic surface.

It is becoming the football team's primary practice field. Don't think they are going to let anyone drive on it and wreck it and make practicing there unsafe. They are going to host some sort of tailgating inside the IPF but how that will work no one knows yet. I know that RG and his team have discussed the boxlife system to allow some tailgating on the field formerly known as franklin but I don't know what ever came of that.

I don't get it. It was natural grass before and they tailgated on it. Unless it snowed or rained, I guess.

The football team didn't practice on it though. They should make a huge tailgating area on the lower practice fields when everything is completed.

All I'm saying, Mr. Crankypants, is that unless they cover up the field turf, you can't tailgate on it cause they don't want it to catch fire or other nonsense.

Catch on fire...

No. I get it. I do. It's just my outrage for the day. Every CU game that I have attended in my life, (other than the weather relocations) we have been tailgating on that field. It's been so awesome and I really hate to see it go.

This.

CU needs to build a rather large restroom facility with large dumpsters and coal dumping locations. There is a new walk way that goes from the creek up to the "BuffWalk" most of the infrastructure is already in place. Could be a prime tailgating location on the creek.

Welcome to sackygate!

One of RG's strongest skills is gameday experience. I imagine the gold lot crowd will be coddled in this process, even if that means special passes to the IPF and party deck, parking in the new garage, special perks around seating. Beer gardens and chill zones.

It'll be something worth while to ease the transition.

I believe this was settled a long time ago. There will be no parking on Franklin. The AD does not want cars on the football practice fields. All parking permits will be reassigned based on priority points. Franklin holders will get to choose where they want to move to, including the garage below the IPF. The IPF is supposed to be open prior to games for tailgating activities (no grills though).

I toured the complex from top to bottom last week. Unbelievable. The entire complex creates a unified practice, workout and recovery facility for football. The unifying design as a whole is as amazing as each individual component. I heard the comment several times: there is nothing like it anywhere in the country. Great job RG and Coach Mac and staff. The two practice fields right next to the indoor field is integral to that unified design. I can't see sacrificing the fields by driving on them, even for tailgating. Given the game day improvements already built by RG for donors and long time fans, I am trusting that great new tailgating traditions will be available.

A tailgating area down by the creek would be outstanding.

I thought of that, too. If they're smart, and I suspect they are, they'll buy a fleet of golf carts to shuttle people from the tailgating lot to the stadium gates.

Cog railway on a monorail.
Duh.

Except that some of the Gold Lotters will not be able to climb the hill.
They're going to build a new, much more accessible bridge across the creek from the lots that will connect with the Buff Walk so that fans won't have to walk up Folsom. The Buff Walk, as far as I know, is going to feature stairs as well as an elevator at the north end.
