What to expect from Davis Webb (NOTHING - Cal Bound)

I'm going to use the Ignore Thread feature. Be nice to have and add on where I could filter out anything about dWeEBB.

Did having the fewest sacks in 2014 help Sefo? He threw 15 INT's, had the lowest Yards Per Attempt of his career (6.43), had a QB rating of 57.5 and the team's record was 2-10, with wins coming against Umass and Hawaii. He is a tough competitor, just not a very good QB at this level, there are no stats to validate otherwise over a three year period.
Did you watch those games? Don't confuse a low sack count to mean he wasn't pressured.

I'm not sure what all was said before this page - but holy ****ing **** - UC Berkley is throwing points all over the scoreboard. Damn it.

After the goff fiasco, I hope nfl teams realize that very average qbs can put up big numbers in dykes' system. Still doesn't mean you can beat san diego state while throwing 3 picks. Or stop you from throwing 5 picks v utah.

**** dweb, but dude can sling the ball....we would be lying if we say he would not help here, especially now.

Meh - at this point, it's clear to me that Sefo's impending return probably played a big role in Webb's decision.

Of course it would be nice to have him now, but I don't think it was ever likely to have Sefo and Webb both on the active roster.

Webb had already been beaten out once, he wasn't going to risk it again.

And Texas just got screwed by that fumble call on the endzone/1
"Screwed" is the wrong word, in my opinion.

Down 7 points with just a minute-and-a-half remaining, everybody knew (coaches, fans, players, viewers) that Texas had to stop Cal on a third and one, to have a chance.

Did Texas stop Cal? No. The Cal RB burst through the line and scampered 55 yards to the end zone with nobody even near him. He casually (and deliberately) dropped the ball at the one, cruising into the end zone. Texas would have been "screwed" if it had been a bad spot that advanced the ball beyond the chains. Texas would have been screwed if a receiver trapped the ball and he was given a catch.

Texas didn't stop Cal. Was it a bad call? It was certainly a weird one, giving it back to Cal on the one. I would say that Texas was possibly denied an opportunity to attempt to go 80 yards to try to tie up a game with 1:25 on the clock and no timeouts on a technicality after getting run the **** over. But I think "screwed" sets up a false narrative. For instance, Oklahoma State got screwed.

The reason that Webb did not come to CU is because HCMM would not guarantee him a starting role. Remember the trip HCMM and Chev made to Texas to speak with Davis after word broke that Davis had visited CAL? Inside information was that the meeting ended poorly. It ended poorly because Davis would not agree to come to CU without a guarantee to start, and HCMM would not give in. My prediction is that if Sefo is out an extended period, HCMM's decision regarding Davis could be a career killer.

Still was the right call. You can't promise the starting job to someone that might come here and not perform.

Seems the smart play would have been to force sefo to a redshirt, guarantee Webb the job. You get a truly healthy sefo for a 5th senior, and develop the younger qbs once Apsay left. There is a dearth of QB options after sefo graduates now.

I don't think Dykes had an established leader at the QB position that was looking like he would be healthy.
Not so sure that Sefo was established leader, or at least, the buzz about Webb coming to CU was very positive within the team. Doesn't matter now.....****!

Didn't CU wipe the floor with the Goats? Why do we care what they say?

Exactly. Been bizarre on twitter. Bizarre that CSU fans would run smack after CU lost at Michigan. Bizarre that CU fans paid that stuff enough respect to bother responding.

It's not like Webb bailed on CSU. Why do they care? Little sister stuff, I guess.

MM did the right thing. Unfortunately it might cost him his job if Sefo can't stay healthy and the season goes down the tubes.

There's a lot of hindsight in this thread.
You can't predict or assume injuries.

MM made the right call. Sefo proved him right through 2 1/2 games. Then he got hurt. You can't sit here and tell me you predicted that.

While you are safe to say no one predicted the exact quarter and situation in which Sefo limped off the field, you are missing a key point.

Lots of fans witnessed Sefo take a beating and stay in the game too long on any number of occasions over the past three years, with a fresh memory of Sefo failing to slide feet first and take a nasty body blow that dislodged the football against CSU in the opener. He was pulled way too late when UMass oand Carolina Southern came to Boulder in seasons past.

We were shocked at how the offense stumbled after Sefo came up injured last season against USC. We were shocked that a gimpy Sefo was put in harms way again for his final series against Michigan.

Colorado fans have not been shy about voicing displeasure on the subject of QB depth, QB development, QB recruiting, and the horror of watching an injured Sefo take the field for several series too long.

Is Sefo a warrior? Yes.
Is Sefo a leader? Yes.
Is Sefo going to avoid injury for a 12 game season when considering the frequency and aggressive running style? History over the past few seasons and yesterday's 3Q in Ann Arbor indicates an emphatic "Hell No."

So I disagree with you. Fans could predict the need for QB depth because we collectively know injuries are part of football. We see Sefo take shots time after time. We can predict Sefo's eligibility is coming to the end.

Fans can predict the need for a serviceable backup for this year and for the future.

We see teams like Ohio State or Texas or A&M win with freshmen ad know the value of back up QBs in the college game.

Yeah. Hindsight has tought CU fans a lot, including how to predict that MacIntyre's fortunes are disproportionately tied to Sefo's health. When CU's QB recruiting fell on its face this spring, we collectively predicted that the biggest risk to bowl eligibility and MacIntyre's job security is Sefo's health. And we recognize that yesterday's injury is potentially a much bigger loss than than the defeat itself.
