Official 2016 Coaching Carousel

After Miles won his natty in 2008 he and his offensive coordinators never looked good managing the quarterback position again. It's pretty damning when you can blue chip recruit across the board but flounder at propping up the point man in your offense.

Reset:
Trying to consolidate the info....

Open jobs:

1. Purdue- Darrell Hazell fired. Names: Troy Calhoun of AFA (he has since denied), former LSU HC Les Miles, Jacksonville Jag OC Greg Olson. Les Miles supposedly wants to bring Steve Sarkisian and Mike Locksley with him. P.J. Fleck also being mentioned.
2. LSU- Les Miles canned. Ed "The Cajun Wild Man" Orgeron at the helm with an interim tag. Names: Jimbo Fisher rumored to be the guy, as noted above by TDforTD, Ed Oregeron named a "strong candidate", other names include Herman, Fedora, Gundy, Fuente and Holgerson, and our own MikMac. Apparently, Aranda staying on is a condition of any new hire. Hire is supposedly imminent.

Jobs filled:

1. Fresno- Jeff Tedford gets the job, mid-season. Good hire, but the timing is weird. Of note, D II Danny applied and interviewed for the gig, according to the Fresno Bee.
2. FIU- Butch Davis takes the FIU gig. 5 year deal and all the Banana Boat products he wants. HaLk is the OC and brings the junk in the trunk.

Highly probable openings:

1. Bailer- Old Man Grobe at the helm with an interim tag. Names: Don't know, but something tells me Dykes may be on their radar, reports Les Miles has spoken with the crazy Baptists. Chad Morriss, Tom Herman, Dino Babers and, according to some MikMac himself.
2. UT-I'll go ahead and add them here, Strong is 5-6. After dropping trow to KU for the first time since FDR was President, HCCS is a goner. Multiple reports he has already been fired, UT Pres. is backpeddling, but this is as sure as it gets. Names are; Herman, Herman or Herman,
3. Oregon- I'll speculate a little here too, I don't think Helfrich survives the 4-7 dumpster fire he started in Eugene. ESPN hack said a week ago or so that Uncle Phil is ready to throw a ton of cash at a proven winner...not good news for Helfrich. Update: Oregon denies report via former AD Kilkenny.
4. Texas Tortilla Technicians- Kliffy Kingsbury is not on solid ground, could soon have more free time to "make acquaintances" with coeds. Holy crap edit: I did not realize TT lost by 56 to ISU, h/t to Buff_since76...Kliffy is a goner.

You can probably add Brian Kelly to the last group as better than 50/50. The Notre Dame money people don't like losing this many games in a season and now with the academic issues ND may have their excuse to fire him. The lesson here is don't cheat at Notre Dame unless you are going to win like Lou did, then anything goes.

Just can't get caught... NCAA couldn't understand Lou so ND was all good ;-)

There’s a short list that most industry sources agree upon, but there’s no definitive order for the candidates. The top three, alphabetically, are: North Carolina’s Larry Fedora, Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy and Colorado’s Mike MacIntyre.

One source called MacIntyre a “curious” candidate for Power 5 jobs. His name is being linked to certain places, but someone suggested he could get “stuck” at Colorado - which has had a tremendous year with veteran players. Maybe “stuck” isn’t the worst thing. Presuming he stays, MacIntyre would be in position for a substantial raise. His staff is doing well leveraging the success: After having the nation’s No. 67-rated recruiting class in 2016, the 2017 class is currently sitting at No. 19.

What does 'stuck' even ****ing mean?

Have a great year, stay in place and then fall back down to earth for a couple years and your name isn't as valuable. Think Todd Graham staying as ASU after two great years.

Not many look at CU as a destination job....

It's been said before, but if Mac was hired by LSU, there would be a corn dog fueled mutiny in Baton Rouge. It would not be pretty.

Those who might be thinking that are probably thinking it's a Dan Mullen type situation at Miss State where he should have followed Dak Precott out the door. That is true a lot. Heck, MacIntyre himself was right to get out of SJSU when he had an NFL-caliber QB and a WAC schedule.

But CU was built with a plan pointing toward 2017 even more than 2016. Offense will be absolutely loaded. Defense will be very fast and talented, but young. Schedule sets up with a very reasonable path to being 3-0 while getting some kinks worked out before Pac-12 play starts. Bowl game is a very reasonable expectation and so is challenging again in the South.

Correct.

LSU is not hiring a coach, any coach, who's overall record is well below .500 and who has never won a major bowl game.

By the time M2 is "qualified" for LSU type jobs he will be so well established here that he will have no reason to go.

Portland sports radio guy was calling around to Eugene hotels yesterday and asking if they had seen Phil and anybody with the nickname "The Mad Hatter" or "Chucky". It was pretty amusing.

No idea, and a silly term to use. Amazing what being down does to people- This is a program that has a natty, a heisman, a butkus, a thorpe, a mackey, and is one of the top 25 winningest programs in the history of the sport........and that's just on the field. This institution is also phenomenonal academically. Sloppy piece of writing from somebody who doesn't know the history of the sport.

Some coaches just see things differently and that's fine. If mac thinks a job in the SEC is better than Colorado that doesn't mean that Colorado sucks and he hated it here maybe he just thinks he is a better fit because college football is all about fits.

I just find the word "stuck" to not make any sense there, Mac can do whatever he wants, if he chooses to stay then he's not "stuck".

I get that, but I'd also say this isn't Larry Fedora leaving North Carolina or Mike Gundy leaving Oklahoma State for LSU or even Texas. With the right people in place, this program can have a tremendous amount of success. I think Mac sees that and I believe he stays.

Depends on the example-I believed Todd Graham could have had the Texas job three years ago if he had wanted it, and look where he is now.

Like it or not, CU has been a career killer for the last three guys before MacIntyre. Stuck is probably the right word for now, maybe the wrong word if he continues to win and get school support for several years. But for now the CU job is not an aspirational position.

I still don't get the use of it, stuck implies lack of choice, clearly he has a choice to leave for one of these "options" they bring up, so he's not stuck. If they think it's a bad decision, that's their opinion, but he's not stuck simply by choosing to stay.

No, all three of those guys killed their own careers.

GB, if he had either had some administrative support during the "scandal" or if he had been PR savvy enough to not make himself the target of the media would have come out okay.

Hawkins and especially Embree were simply the wrong guys. Hawkins had every chance and flat out failed. Embree was so bad that he had to go.

Now I will admit that the administration in those times (yes Dr. Phil I'm looking at you) could and should have been more supportive, football wasn't a priority. Despite that CU didn't kill those careers.

Now with the facilities upgrades, the financial commitment to assistants, to support staff, etc. this job can be one of the top 15-20 in the country.

CU is one of the handful of schools in the country that legitimately could win a NC yet the fans don't demand that for a coach to be considered successful.

Does Mac have any other kids we can use to anchor him here? Chiaverini's kid? I think we should offer Leavitts daughters now while we still can. :D

In all seriousness, I am pretty certain we can keep him. IF he wants to stay. He has a great relationship with his boss and a lot of support from up top. We have money, we have fabulous facilities, we have an outstanding location, and a winning tradition. A path, by the way, that he's returned us to (legacy). He strikes me as a grounded man who cares more about his players more than being a mercenary in search of the next best job.

Not necessarily agreeing with the article, but could it be that "stuck" in this context means that while HCMM has done enough to see is name pop up as a possibility for other positions, he would not be the first choice for any of those programs. Thus, he may end up stuck in Boulder because other, more attractive candidates take the premier destinations. An alternate perspective would be that if HCMM chooses to turn down more prestigious opportunities now, he could end up regretting that choice later because his stock will never be higher. Either way, not a huge deal; just keep winning.

Ok, then he is stuck if he doesn't get any offers at other programs. There is no evidence that MacIntyre has or does not have options to leave at this point. If he is not offered a "better" job then he could be considered stuck until CU becomes a destination job.

At this point, what can be done at other programs that can't be done at CU going forward? Top 15 recruiting classes, Pac 12 Championships, 10+ regular season wins, in the CFP conversation, state of the art facilities, great AD support, etc. Maybe the one or two things lacking are SEC level funding for the program and base salary, which IMO, that gap can and will be closed if the team can sustain this kind of success.
