CU adding Fresno St. to 2011-13 football schedules

:cry::cry::cry:

That says it all. HELLO? We ARE NOT beating these teams,WE ARE LOSING YEAR AFTER YEAR.

You'd rather cu lose to a top 25 team than get a WIN. Brag about our tough schedul and then use it as an excuse why we have ANOTHER losing season.

F# BRILLIANT.

They take one game off the schedule and it's a whine fest.

I know close doesn't count, but I think we're turning the corner and those close losses will soon become wins. And yeah, I'd rather see UGA scrape out a win against us than have us pound on Kent State 'cause playing Kent St. is pointless.

Again, would you prefer a move to the MWC?

So,we take off LSU and you over-react and bring up kent state? Over-reaction to say the least.

By your post, taking lsu off the schedule requires a move to the MWC?

I'm all for playing these top teams....IF WE WIN 1 of them and quit losing 2 of them each year.

I think cu is making strides also but i'm SICK of seeing 5 or more losses at the end of the year.

Oh I'm sorry, I just thought you were complaining about us losing and advocating scheduling games that were guaranteed wins.

Does cu have any guaranteed wins at this time?

I'm just saying start winning one or god forbid 2 of these games vs top bcs teams.

I'm also saying we don't need to play 2 top bcs teams every OOC.

Yeah, CU is too good to play Fresno State. I really don't understand CU fans sometimes. Bohn gets a 2 for 1 agreement with a respected program that gives CU fans 2 quality home games and people still bitch.

We bitch because in doing so we lost one of the most anticipated scheduled upcoming ooc games. Plus, it's the off season and we have to do something.

31-17 loss to LSU is better than 38-20 win against Fresno?? Sorry but Fresno is pretty good year in and year out. A win over Fresno is a quality win for people who know CFB.

Minnesota, Hawaii, Utah, CSU, Cal

You know what? Those teams have the potential to be pretty darn good, save for CSU. Hawaii is always tough, especially at home. Cal is a very, very good football team, and Utah can bring it. Minnesota? Who knows? They may suck, they may be great. I think that makes for a pretty decent OOC those years and I'm not disappointed at all that they are moving (possibly dropping) LSU.

I wouldn't count Fresno a sure win, would you?

I agree, it's a good schedule. I like that we get a Utah series that is a pretty easy road trip from the Denver area. And believe or not, I'm looking forward to that Minnesota game. They are supposed to be opening a new stadium in the next couple years.

Plus it can't hurt recruiting in California to play another game out there in addition to Cal.

Seems like a W is worth more than national TV money and the opportunity to use LSU as a recruiting tool in the SE.

Damn Fresno State game won't even get a good TV spot, if it's televised at all. :sad2:

Yea, I read that they're moving back onto back campus (they had an on-campus stadium years ago that got torn down) and out of that sorry-ass Metrodome.

Actually the WAC has a deal with ESPN, so there's a good chance the game would be nationally televised.

How many top tier players have we snagged from Louisianna and the surrounding area? How many top tier kids have we snagged from Cali? Face it, dropping LSU is more of a gain, we have never heavily recruited the SE because we cant compete with the SEC in recruiting standards (yet!) and we have always done a great job getting solid players from Cali, so with our extra game and extra weekend/time out there, I would expect us to gain a few prospects attention during that time.

Kordell?

i didn't read the article but based on the teaser it seems like the series was "postponed" rather than cancelled...

fresno state is a nationally respected mid-major program. we need to play one top tier bcs team, one nationally recognized bcs conference team, and one nationally recognized mid-major team each year to maintain our standing as a program that goes after the big boys but still has a chance at the mnc...

the "postponement" of lsu to a later date when we can get that scheduling cycle in place is a great move. we don't lose any respect for our scheduling because of it and we still get to see some great d1a cfb.

as abs pointed out in this thread, fresno state killed our shot at a mnc in 2001. i like the idea of getting back at them for that...and not just because my former boss is a bulldog...

according to the article 2018 and 2021 are the target years lol

Celestine is the only current LA player on the Buffs. That's not enough. The SE has not exactly been a target for CU recruiting. And by ducking LSU, any opportunity to recruit those kids is diminished. If CA is such a Mecca for recruits, then why is the SEC considered a stronger conference than the Pac 10 or WAC? There are players to be had from the bayou that are being left uncourted.

Change of subject - Baton Rouge has one of the most famous tailgate celebrations in the land. As an alum of CU, the opportunity to be part of that scene is a date to treasure. It is not possible to know if LSU fans really do smell like corn dogs while sitting in the bleachers of Fresno.

Are you saying California isn't a recruiting mecca? Or haven't you noticed USC's dominance over the last 6-7 years? Getting top tier players out of CA is going to be huge in getting the Buffs back to prominence. CU is an easier sell to CA recruits than kids from the southeast IMO.

I would love to get more players out of Louisiana and the southeast, but it's not the end of the world if we don't. LSU's resurgence doesn't help our cause either. I'm sure Hawkins will continue to try and make inroads down there.

Pure math. California is home to 1 out of every 10 americans. Louisiana is home to 1 out of every 60 americans (and 50 % of all snapping turtles). So it stands to reason California could deliver 6 quality recuits for every one from Louisiana, unless, of course, you are recruiting snapping turtles.

Let's get back on point. Last I checked, USC is no where near Fresno. Who goes to Fresno? Fresno is not exactly on the forefront of college campuses I am dying to visit. LSU, on the other hand, is a campus that is very high on my list of campuses in which I would love to visit as a CU fan.

Again. Fresno sucks.

Well, there are some very good high school football programs in the Fresno area. It can't hurt recruiting there when you play the hometown team.

LSU may end up back on the schedule in the future anyway. I just don't understand why people are bitching so much about Bohn easing the schedule a bit and still managing to get a quality opponent to Boulder, and in a 2 for 1 no less.

Yeah, but, with LSU on the schedule, Hawk and his coaches can say, "Come to CU and play primetime against LSU."

"Come to CU and play on a fringe ESPN game against Fresno State" just doesn't have the same sizzle. And the Bulldogs could punk CU in a perfect trap game in the process. That's less honorable than losing to USC, UCLA, or Cal. It's probably worse than losing to Stanford or San Diego State, because atleast the fans can be in a good part of the golden state.

Besides, Fresno is so far away from SoCal and the Bay Area that it's not exactly going to be a magnet for the families of California players on the team. I don't think you are arguing that a 100 mile radius around Fresno is a better recruiting ground than a 100 mile radius around Baton Rouge.

We're already playing Cal in 2011, not to mention Hawaii as well. You don't think that's enough of an OOC sales pitch for potential recruits?

It is for California recruits, but probably means jack all to kids from the states containing SEC members.
