#Fire Coach Dorrell

We said this same thing in 2012 and then went to Fresno and lost by 55.....Embree got canned at the end of that year and Bohn was gone the following spring.
There are certain games that have convinced me that it was never going to work with a coach. Fresno State cemented it for me with Embree. If I was hanging onto any hope after the 2009 season with Hawkins, the game at Cal in the beginning of 2010 ended it for me. In 2018, it wasn't 1 game so much as the 7-game losing streak and the team looking like it had quit those last 3 weeks.

I don't think the TCU game got me there, but it got me close. I saw a lot of quit in the 2nd half.

For me it was this press conference. The "we don't talk about Bruno" response to the QB question. He's walling himself off and making a false reality. That's not good for anything, any job, any situation.

This game with Air Force could be the one that finishes off Karl Dorrell if its as bad as I think it is.

They're good enough to embarrass us, and I don't think that's being nice to Air Force because they're Air Force.

Best way to get your message across is with your money and not giving it to CU and not showing up to games. If this team is 2-10 and the fans have bailed on the program and stop showing up, it's near impossible to bring him back.

That above is a quote today from the Daily Camera's Brian Howell in his weekly chat.
It's obvious with this quote among others from him today that Howell is not in his corner.
Dorrell has lost the fans, he has lost the press and he's already lost many of the players. Once the majority of them are lost then we will have the 'trifecta' and Dorrell will be on an island by himself. Dead coach walking.

Damn

You know you suck if Brian Howell turns against you

The qb situation feels similar the the ol issues last year. It took until week whatever for kd to admit to something that was obvious to everyone. My expectation is that we’ll switch qbs 6-7 games into the season.

But, I’d caution anyone who thinks Shrout would save the team this year. Too many holes and he’s not that great.

An a$$ whipping at AFA enough or will there need to be more? Asking for a friend 😎

I'll know it when I see it. 2nd half of Friday was close. There's a lot also which has made me feel like KD does not have a good grasp on the pulse of things, whether it's his coaches or players or morale. I think he makes pretty good decisions when he has a lot of time to analyze and deliberate, but that he's not good at recognizing and adjusting to things while they are happening. I don't have much hope of him flipping the script this Saturday.

Exactly what RG liked when he gave him ~15 mil Gua-ran-teed. 🤦‍♂️

I'll take playing the guy who may throw 2-3 picks a game over the guy who can't throw at all.

Here’s the question for me. We can all say 1-11, 2-10 gets KD fired because ppl won’t show up to games, loss revenue …etc but when was the last time, if ever, we were facing this situation with a $7.5m + assistants ($9-10m?) buyout in front of us? I feel like this is uncharted territory for CU.

I’m just not confident the AD can come up with that kind of cash and we may be forced to keep this loser coach and hope “young” guys get better next year or any other canned BS excuse.

It doesn’t matter how bad attendance gets this year because we play CSU, Nebraska, and USC at home next year. RG knows this and it really won’t affect Dorrell this year

It’s absurd to think the AD can’t come up the money. Buyouts are paid over multiple years, it’s not like they have to cut him a check for $8m at the time of firing. Spread it out over 3-5 years if need be, but they are going to lose a ton of revenue if they go winless and they keep him for 2023

If we lose big on Saturday (as expected), 2-10 looks like a best case scenario.

The decision to fire Dorrell would actually be pretty straightforward and easy at that point.
Where’s the money to do this as well as replacing all the new staff brought on with 2 year contracts. My guess is Wilson will be fired end of year and replaced to buy KD one more year

God it would be nice for KD to take some responsibility and lower his buyout since he "loves" CU. I doubt we get as lucky as OSU did with Anderson though.

Is there language in those contracts that says we have to attach Sanford, Devan, McGeoghan, and Patterson's buyout checks to their pink slips?

Duff is right-next year's schedule makes it easier to fire this staff. ****, Fusker fans may spend half that money in beer when they come out here next year.

A search firm is a must with the next search.

Until Pac media deal and conference stuff gets figured out KD is going nowhere. If we magically get an invite to the Big, sure the extra money makes getting rid of KD easy. If we are stuck in the Pac making under $30mil in TV KD is going to get another year.

i have decided this is an elaborate troll job by kd. there is no other reasonable explanation. he's intentionally tanking us so he gets fired and paid out. he heads into early retirement all fat and happy and we get to keep watching the dumpster fire burn.

half-kidding aside, this season is going to be horrible and look at the home games next year... they pretty much have to pop dorrell before next year so that we have the "new coach, give him time" excuse when we are getting stomped into tiny pieces in front of the home crowd next season.

Once this staff inevitably gets fired, RG cannot be entrusted to hire the next football coach under circumstances.
While I agree it would be best if this entire University could start fresh with a new Chancellor, AD and HC in 2023, I will take a new HC at minimum, and if our guy dio has actual scoop about Phil D being on his retirement tour this year, 2/3 will be nice. At the end of the day RG did hire Tucker, so I think he does have it in him to do what's needed.

The hope is that Saliman is "more calculating than we all think" (h/t to dio) and is working to backfill Phil D's position with someone more dynamic, and will then work to remove the admission/transfer hurdles to make CU a more attractive place. At that point, maybe RG's fire will be relit and he'll make another big swing as his lasting legacy at CU.

Keep in mind that if we fire KD right now most of the staff stays on through the end of the year and the interm coach is probably on that staff.

This means that the financial difference between firing now or at the end of the season is minimal.
