22-23 Transfer Portal and General Recruiting Catch-All Thread

NCSU QB would have been great in Boulder. Man OU are bleeding players. Feel bad for VA Tech....Erick All that TE from Mich has a ton of potential, at least situational...and was Javion Cohen hurt?Bama lost him and Christian Leary...Nebraska going hard after the NCSU qb...

Prime won’t just cut guys who committed to play here. At least I hope not. Some will see the writing in the wall and transfer. But I’d imagine there are guys who love the school or just don’t feel they have other options who will stick it out and that’s okay. There will be a place for them but they are going to have to be willing to work their asses off with no guarantee they will ever see the field.
Couldn’t disagree more. This is big business and big money. He should absolutely cut every player he thinks can’t contribute.

I agree, mostly. It's a very different world now. I think there is something to be said for honoring a player's scholarship to a school as offered. That does not guarantee a spot on the team itself. I admit I don't know how those two things interact. Be interested to hear. It's one thing if a player gets kicked off a team for conduct issues. That would--likely--negate the terms of the scholarship.

Yes and no. It's a business and you got talent and play at a high level, you can find another home. A lot of these coaches still remember you as a HS recruit. Maybe this is your chance to go to the level you should have been on from the beginning

That said, being cut sucks. I understand and can relate but I said, wherever Deion goes, at least 20 guys won't make it.

I'm sure prime will wade through the weeds and find that talent AND desire to win that is left in the current CU locker room. Then the rest will be dismissed.

Okay. Fine. But these kids may have chosen CU over other options. If they get cut they likely will not have options anymore. So you say “too bad. Screw ‘em.” Some of these kids are well along toward a CU degree and rely on their scholarship to complete their degree but you say, “too bad. Screw ‘em.” Nice.

Life in the big leagues, DBT. People want a competitive and nationally relevant CFB team but they don't want to see how it's made.

This isn't an everybody gets a ribbon program those are reserved for club teams, slow pitch softball and that great movie called the Sandlot. How many millions have been poured in to the training facilities alone.

Nobody is keeping them from continuing their education and it sounds like the pac 12 agreement may allow them to keep their scholarships.

Yep. We certainly weren’t losing while flooding the field with an abundance of P5 talent for the past few years.

2016. We had some real talent all hit their stride at the same time, and also some solid high-motor leaders. That DL pretty much all got some looks in the NFL, and of course the DB group may have been our best ever.

Since then. Just a few guys here and there.

Grandpa these kids will be fine if they no longer make the cut on the football team. If they still want to play football they have plenty of options at lower levels.

At the p5 level this is no longer an amateur sport. If you want to win and play with the big dogs you have to be ruthless.

I am fully on board with giving players the opportunity to graduate, but I think this is a this is a downside of the portal. Kids have no obligation to stay at a school after signing an LOI. Players want the guarantee of a 5 year scholarship while also having the freedom to transfer at any point. Schools invest a lot in player and lose it when they transfer.

He won't actually cut them. They'll "Medically Retire". That'll free up the scholly and the roster spot and allow the student to finish school. And, it still counts as a graduating athlete for APR purposes.

Colorado knows this better than anyone. Any player that other P5s want have left Colorado over the past 3 years.

Any truth that he's bringing Katie Hnida in as special teams coach?
On this bright day of CUFB, there is no reason to take us back to the dark days of Bitsy and Byyny, who started the downward spiral, is there?

I agree that it sucks, but let’s also be blunt - this is a 1-11 team. They probably shouldn’t be here in the first place. You can’t go 1-11 and then expect to have everything remain the same.

He could cut them as well. I posted an article on how Lincoln Riley cut guys and had them enter the portal. Riley ended up with 26 transfers and that doesn't include the recruits who signed with USC out of HS.

Listening to Cowherd and, especially, Mark Sanchez was fun. Cowherd loves the moves. He has some ill conceived notions about Colorado’s money and commitment, but loves the move.

Sanchez loves Boulder. His best friend is Scottie McNight. He said he used to visit Scottie in Boulder and absolutely loves it. He said he almost transferred to CU because he loved it so much.

Both think Deion could very well turn it around because of the portal.

Listen, I’m fine with Prime telling them like it is and giving them the choice. But taking a kid’s scholarship isn’t a cool move. And I think Prime will not just cut guys unless there is some ulterior reason.

I’m not losing sleep over it one way or the other.
