It was a closed practice. It's not a "slight" to anyone if someone else gets invited. It's not an "open" practice where someone was denied a press pass. Neely has earned CP's trust over years, so he gets a different level of access. In this case, he was allowed to extend that access to work colleagues after vetting them for months.
Well said.

I’m sure he called that shot (without thinking ahead of overall implications) and RG should make sure CP sees the bigger picture. The AD has the overall responsibility and may want to gently assert itself. Not return to the Plati days but have some general game plan in place.
While I generally agree, I think media is a major area of focus and highly important to CP, and I think there’s probably a level of (full) autonomy given to him as part of the deal. I think RG could/should give him some background on local beat guys and encourage some level of access (Prime is very familiar with Howell), but I don’t think anything should be dictated to him. I imagine the biggest appeal about taking this job was having full control

Things that will never happen:

RG: "Coach Prime, I have told all the local journalists that they will get special behind-the-scenes access to your practices. This is not your call."

😂😂😂😂😂

Some of what people are posting and you're responding to... Get the fvck out of here with this bullsh!t.

To sum up the views from the scrimmage:

- we seem to have really good #1s, but there are several positions (QB most obviously) where there’s a big decline from 1 to 2
- both offense and defense had bad penalties at times, which can/should be cleaned up in the next two weeks
- defense won the scrimmage, but offense had been winning the week prior
- McClain and Edwards don’t play like freshman

I think most other things are the narrative that has been in place since the start of camp (offense will be great is Shedeur doesn’t get hit often)
Cormani and Dylan getting true freshman props on ESPN+

I love the post that says RG sees the big picture but CP does not. Willful blindness is hilarious.

There is still a low grade resistance to Coach Prime around the program. Chad Brown, a few posters on the boards, some local media and I am sure some people in the AD’s office. If CU starts out 1-4 expect these folks to feel emboldened and start crowing loudly.

There are always people that are afraid of change no matter if change is for the best.

But when I say it, untrue.

Makes sense.
Some folks think every name on a depth chart equals true depth.

I don't expect to ever have guys who would be all-conference performers relegated to backup roles.

Where we are at though, is that all starters are either that level or will at least be in that solid/ capable/ P5 JAG realm.

Depth means a guy who can come in and be trusted to do the job. Some of our backups are that. Some are potential stars of the future who will make plays but also hurt us with mistakes or aren't physically developed while some aren't good enough and never will be good enough to play starting P5 snaps on a winning P5 team.

This year, we will at times be forced to play some of the latter types of backups and how much we're forced to rely on them results in a huge variance in this team's ceiling and floor.

If we stay healthy and some of the future stars emerge during the season, we're a Top 25 team. If it goes the other way, we'll be saying "wait til next year" as we're going into November games.

I don’t recall you saying it or me saying you were wrong if you did. If I missed something, my apologies.
It’s a point I’ve made for a while (why 3.5 season win total is sharp) and then you’ve had posts about the team’s depth being experienced. The 1s at CU can play. The depth will be challenged this year. If Shedeur gets hurt, it’ll be a rough season.

My point has only ever been is that there’s a middle ground between the national narrative, that there is zero depth on this team, and having elite depth.

Very few teams around the country can afford to lose starters and not have a drop off in production/talent.

What is up with Leonard Payne?

Haven’t heard anything about him all camp. This is the guy with the most experience at DT and was brought in primarily to be the run stuffer.

Time to get concerned or is his job just not as note worthy?

He didn't start or play a whole lot in Fresno State for five years, especially last season. I always hoped he would be a 2nd/3rd team DT but that kind of depth is so hard to find.

Time for the our Buffs to hit the field and beat TCU. Then we can talk about that. It’s gonna be a really fun year now that CP is leading us.

Shane Cokes might be the most valuable player on D due to talent drop off/depth issues.

Also, Shane has gotten rave reviews and I’m counting on a big year from him but he is also stepping up a level going from Ivy to P5.

My Buff PTSD has me seriously concerned about O and D line play.

Fwiw, Woelk mentioned him twice last week for standing out in practice:

Defensively, DL Leonard Payne Jr. is getting some quality snaps with the No. 1 unit.

TUESDAY PRACTICE REPORT: Defensive lineman Leonard Payne Jr., a 6-3, 300-pound transfer from Fresno State, put himself in the middle of some plays Tuesday.

Link one and link two

The real value of a TE in an up tempo offense is that the defense has fewer opportunities to sub in to match up.

No Tyler Brown is a bummer. Wish we had just a little more on OL

Domineck isn’t injured is he? He’s just been in undershirt without pads last two vids but no yellow jersey. Feel like Jahquez Robinson has been the same. Haven’t paid super close attention to numbers on every play tho

Need Shedeur to stay healthy. That would be a catastrophic drop off
You can say this about most of the programs in the country.

Quality starting QBs are hard to find and very few programs have more than one.

The majority of those programs that this wouldn't apply to are the ones that don't even have one guy who would be considered a quality starter.

It is more pronounced here because Shedeur is an upper level starter, a guy who has legitimate prospects to become a pro starter past college but there are very few college coaches out there saying "No problem if our starter gets hurt, we have another guy we can win with."

You can say the same about some other positions as well but it is much harder to compensate for or cover up losing a QB.

Yet Ohio State can somehow trot out a third string quarterback on any given day who will throw for 400 yards against elite competition.

As can a couple of other programs.

Part of this is that guys that go there sign knowing that if they wait their turn they have a shot at playing with the kind of talent that could move them into the top of the first round.

You can count these programs on one hand with a finger or two left over.

If Prime stays here for a while or even if he doesn't but the program continues the trajectory he has created we could become one of those programs.

For right now, considering where we have been, I'm just happy to have Shedeur and hope he can stay healthy.
