CU Assistant Coach Hiring Thread

Thanks. Is Sal staying?

Why split OC and QB assuming that is the plan?
Matt developed the Packers QB Jordan Love from a 3-star recruit to where he is now. He also helped get Jackson Arnold ready to be the starter for OU next year. Shedeur is an NFL talent, but some things must be worked on.

I thought one of Matt Well’s notable weak spots was recruiting? And that was one of the biggest reasons he got fired from TTU?

That said, I would be excited if he comes to be OC here. He is a good coach.

Rick likes Sapp but is unsure if he can fully be a DL / DE Coach. We might bring someone else in.

Edit: If you can see the effect of losing Nick Williams is having for our potential recruits, you'll see why George is iffy,
Sorry, I don't understand your last sentence. First, I assume you mean Rick George, but second, why would he be iffy on Sapp because of Williams being a great recruiter? I feel like Sapp's main purpose would be recruiting.

Please let this version be the likely scenario. Good thinking.
Having Shurmur as analyst but in the film room and meeting rooms with Loadholt would actually be a pretty good setup, IMO.

Would get a proven OC/QB coach who has also had success as a HC to run the offensive organization. Has familiarity with Loadholt who would be the recruiting end of the OL group with a long time NFL coach around for coaching development/mentoring of Loadholt.

"Eh, we are thinking of our DL / DE hire because we will be able to recruit extremely well within the portal and develop our Day-1 HS Recruits during the season"

I want a defensive line full of Dawgs personally.
Interesting. So does that mean they are "re thinking" Sapp as DL/DE because they want someone who can coach em up?

Suppose I had to guess, yes. Prime wants more NFL players to start coaching, but with the current state of CFB, the upcoming 12-team playoffs, and the Portal going insane, we want to win now with proven coaches. Rick George wants to go only some way in, hoping Sapp pans out, but we can afford good proven coaches, so 🤷

Know anything about recruits/portal players?

Who in their right mind would take that job? The city is a hell hole, the school sucks and the program pulls a whopping 7-11k "faithful" for every home game.
Uff da.

It's a job where you could flip the program in a few seasons and jump to a better program. Mendenhall is familiar with the Mountain West.
