Here's a big reason that neither the Big 12 nor the Pac-10 will want to have 11 teams in 2011. The Big 12 wants to shift to a 9-game conference schedule. The Pac-10 wants to keep playing a 9-game conference schedule.
However...
It is mathematically impossible for 11 teams to each play 9 conference games.
11 x 9 = 99 total games
Each game is between 2 teams, so: 99 / 2 = 49.5 = impossible
Each conference either has to have 8 or 10 conference games in order to make the numbers work with an odd number of teams.
