September 3 - Colorado @ Hawaii

Obviously I'm not a big poster here, but I'll add my 2 cents. Building a program is perhaps one of the hardest things in sports to do. This isn't Alabama where all we would have to do is hire Nick Saban and the recruits start rolling in. Where they consistently fill a 100,000 person stadium every week, in the region of talent for football in the country. I'm not sure what everyone's expectations were, but this is going to be a marathon not a sprint. This isn't the pros where through the draft you will, eventually, get enough talent to win. And CU is not guaranteed to recover, ever. I saw where people said, "I'm sick of losing", yeah I am too. Can you imagine it for the next 30 years? The next 50? Because it is a possibility, we are not owed anything in college football.

When we were good in the 90's, they were tapping Louisiana for talent. With the SEC and LSU now a national power, that may never happen again. We can't keep the few good players in Colorado in state. (Virginia has a much more talent rich state than Colorado). It usually takes Coaches a couple years to integrate their program, set up relationships with instate and out of state high school coaches for recruiting, create the atmosphere they want meaning kids that believe in the system and program, get the kind of recruits they want on the field. I'm not trying to be all doom and gloom, just saying this is not an easy job. Having unrealistic expectations isn't going to make it easier for the fans or staff.

The biggest concern I see is the level of talent and speed on the team. Especially speed, the team looked painfully slow. A QB should be at the top of the list as well, but Embree seems to be working on that hard with Wood and Dillion coming to the team. Truthfully, I wouldn't expect much out of Hansen. He seems incapable of getting the ball out under 5 seconds, nor finding his secondary receiver. If they can't get the attitude and faith from the upperclassmen, they may have to start playing freshman out there.

If you guys are jumping under the bus now after one game, I wouldn't want to see the first three years when Mac was hired. And it's different than Hawk because Mac took over a destoryed program, same with Embree. Hawk took over a team that had won three North titles and a Big 12 title in 2001.

i like when creatini goes "history" on us 35 year olds.

i never knew that stuff? wow!

did you know Mac struggled some early on.....wow, mindblower!

The schedule this year was locked in for the most part when Embo came on board, so I am not faulting him for that, yes there was some movement possible in terms of dumping Cal which we should have done in a heartbeat especially after adding OSU but its water under the bridge now. We are going to take our lumps I see 3-9 in our future. But if we come out next season and are playing 3 tough teams again in our Non Conf I am going to be livid. As I said in a different thread, Bowl Games are payday's too so lets win some games, excite the base and most importantly build some confidence in a team that has become accustom to losing. Then when USC rolls in or we are on the road in Oregon our guys have a puncher's chance at least.

Sane Scheduling in 2012, Let's do it!!

My take: Everyone that is cursing out our team and Embree needs to stop. You cant seriously expect us to completely turn around from being very very bad. New coach, some new players, new offense, etc...No one wants to hear it, but Hawaii is a decent team and probably better than 3-4 teams in the PAC-12. Without some stupid mistakes( TACKLING, penalties, dropped passes) i think we win.
I was most dissapointed in Hansen. He has got to throw the ball! I know that Tyler cares more about CU football than probably anyone but he can not keep shaking his head and blaming other people. After almost every incomplete pass or miscommunication, Tyler would point a finger or shrug. Your QB needs to take the blame and say shake it off. I feel bad for Tyler, because you can tell how much he cares, but play Hirschman and play for the future of the program.

Positives: I thought there were a lot. Pass defense was incredibly improved from last year, with significantly less talent. Our secondary played discipline and hard for the most past. We held one of the best QB's in the NCAA to 178 yards. The pass rush was relentless, but sometimes out of control. Our defensive line is actually somewhat talented. Major and Rippy were all over the place as well. If we can figure out how to wrap up and tackle, this defense will be very improved.
Clemons was dissapointing, PRich was great...if he had a QB that could stretch the field he would put up huge #'s. McCulluch was not bad at all, besides from some drops. Stewart played well, whenever there werent 5 defenders in his face he picked up solid yardage and was huge in the screen game.
Biggest positive for me....we didnt fold after being down 17-0. We came out, played fairly well, and truly wanted to win. While it didnt last the whole second half, I was impressed by that. Whens the last time a Hawkins team almost completed a comeback and didnt fold.
OLine was pathetic.
To beat Cal: TACKLE, continue to run the ball even if it doesnt work well at first. Throw short, quick passes(slants, screens, swing passes, curls). We cant take so many terrible sacks.

Please stop *****ing and support our team. Players see how fans react. For once, lets rally together and truly support CU. The culture has to change.

#1, you're bitching in your post, so don't be a hypocrite.

#2, really? you're ready to abandon TH? So Embree has no idea what he's doing through spring and fall ball?

#3, more bitching.

#4, uhhh, Hawaii? WTF are you talking about?

#5, more bitching.

So to sum it up, only you can be a bitch, bench TH, and in order to beat Cal we should block, run, catch passes, & tackle? Thanks for the news flash.

Sorry to burn you down, but hypocrisy stings the nostrils.

On a related note, some observations/questions:

Hawaii's OC seemed to have our ticket punched from the getgo?

Anyone know what Major's stats looked like? I was a little drunk, but literally could not find him on the field in the second half.

What's Baktari's (sp?) injury?

How come no other RB's got to touch the ball?

Did Tau see the field?

I just think it cool his dads balls had cable tv so he could see the games.

That's a neck slap

Tini, offense intended, blow it out your ass. You love to be a cocky little **** about pretty much everything until you actually have to defend dumbass viewpoints. I do not need a history lesson from someone who googles facts and stats to sound smart. Someday you might learn a thing or two about actual football (hint: not stuff you can look up on the Internet). Until then, keep the lectures to yourself and stop trying to talk down to longtime fans that have more time, emotion, energy, and money invested in this program than you ever will, even if you live to age 200.

i'm normally suspicious of new tech and their alleged supreme importance in our lives and who makes money from it....but cable TV balls are cool as heck even if they never caught on. cyborg cable access balls are wicked retro testicular cool.

and when it's your dad's balls, probably some awesome Freudian angle there too.

I don't see the problem in being critical of a loss to a team that DII beat last year. This loss stings because of how we lost. We looked outprepared, outcoached, and outtalented.

Not even Burrito Palazzo trying to hold my hand during the game could console me.

Man I would have to loved to see some of you the first few years when Coach Mac was hired.
I would have loved to see you on this board a couple of years ago. Some posters made the same reference when we were getting our asses handed to us under Hawk.

Mac sucked for years, then he was good. [Insert name here] sucks too, therefore, in time he will be good too. Perfect logic!

not only posters but Neill Woelk....after clouds, sunshine new age bumpersticker reasoning. that guy lost his mind with Hawkins. it's obviously a stupid logical fallacy that because Mac inherited a crap team from Chuck, in a very strong Big 8, and came to dominate it that Hawkins failure was proof of future success.

anyone with eyes saw that Mac's teams were getting better....Hawk's teams looked the same. Mac changed O's and got better, Hawk's teams changed O's like pop-sickle flavors (despite having some "formula" and the vaunted "Boise Playbook").

Hawk lost his first ****ing game to Montana State at home. Hawaii isn't Montana State and is a decent team. Mostly everyone is overreacting about one loss. Rome wasn't built in a day and we had DBT in chat saying to fire EB halfway through the second quarter and people were expecting this team to be world beaters. Sorry this is going to take time and I'm not going to flip a bitch after one loss. UW was in the same position we are right now not long ago. Yeah it was a dissapointing game but they fought back and if Orms I think it was caught that pic in the 3rd, he was gone and it was a tie ballgame. When your offensive line couldn't block a high school team it's tough to get anything going and when you allow seven sacks you can't expect to win and baring that pick 6, we had a damn good chance to come back and win. This team didn't quit and that's a positive. It's going to be a rough season no doubt but now isn't the time to start calling doom on this staff.

I replied to tini before I read the rest of the thread. After reading more posts, I see that my post was not necessary. Good work, fellas.

From my vantage point, we didn't pass the eye test the moment we took the field. We look small. Too many guys on the field that don't look like football players.

On the bright side, it looked like we were running plays that had a chance of success if we had the horses. It's going to be a rough year. The coaches won't be able to do exactly what they want to do, so we will probably have to resort to some bull**** plays to suit or personnel. I thought the QB play was atrocious.

i've been saying that for years. i go to the spring game and every year my first impression is we look small, we don't look like Alabama or Texas i see on TV.

i see guys on campus, and outside Miller they are in good shape but they didn't seem like monsters. our rb crew is smaller than me. chris brown was a freakshow walking through Hellems.

miller is huge.

Miller might be huge but he dont play like it. Tini that was Sandersfield not Orms on the shoulda been pick 6. Although, I think Orms dropped a pick in the first half, doubt he wouldve scored but we woulda been in HA VY II territory. That announcer still has me pissed off lol.

'Tini has a bad case of reverse euro-centrism. He'll almost certainly be the subject of some Spike Lee film.

My mistake but that INT would have made it 24 all....ugh.

I just don't understand a player of his size getting pushed around.

I don't understand how Miller deserves first round discussion. Great size but he doesn't have heart. He hasn't dominated any opponent. He's a fluff guy, like puffy toilet paper.

wrong about him not having heart. i'm dating a gal in fam housing and Miller is out running by himself a lot on the practice fields. he might not make it, but it won't be lack of trying.

Rebuilding is tough and we are at the bottom but it should not take as long as MAC did especially with the 85 scholarships. I don't think its a fair comparison.
