2011 Schedule, Roster & Coaches

Yeah, I totally agree that they probably better off without those guys, but it still seemed like a sizable list, and given how the recruiting has gone, it's not good when you miss on half of your top recruits.

Here's the breakdown of the roster with the class (07-11)-rival's recruiting ranking-home state -and position recruited as if different than current position. I know this info is probably out here somewhere, but thought I'd put it out here anyhow.

Looking at this, I see why Embree doesn't want our second team defense to see the field very much this season.

Holy crap. Tini et al, THIS is how you make an entrance. That is one hell of a high bar.

A few things

Goldberg is now playing at DE

Gorman is now the holder and has been moved to Safety
Gage Greer is making the move to FB

I've got to do some updates at some point based on the post-spring depth chart & roster.

I think Mizzle is slightly data driven. Where'd you go to undergrad? Nice contributions, Rep!

Welcome, Mizzle.

Way to come with the hardcore info on your first post. I'm gonna rep that. Nicely done.

I don't think you missed anyone who left. Frankly, there wasn't a whole hell of a lot on that list that we would have been able to win with anyway. Embree's probably better off without almost all of them (lack of talent or character issues). A couple you missed are with guys who transferred in. Toney Clemons was a 5.9rr and Logan Gray was a 5.8rr. Oops. Givens is not with the program due to disciplinary issues and it's not sure whether he'll return after the fall suspension.

While I mostly agree here, the attrition at WR, RB, and TE really sticks out to me. It is a bit bizarre how the those positions have reached their current states.

Also, that banner 2008 class looks really spotty now. A full third of the players in that class are gone with very little production to show for it.

In the final analysis of recruiting under Hawkins, I feel confident in 4 statements:

1- His in-state recruiting was pretty strong for 3 years
2- His out-of-state recruiting was never very strong, but at its best it was able to secure signatures from some talented guys who had academic, injury or character issues
3- By the 2009 class, he was able to sign virtually no one who had other BCS options
4- Overall, he took way too many risks on guys with baggage, even 2* and low-to-mid 3* guys in that category, then did very little to put a structure in place that supported them

I do believe that Hawk did have a good eye for talent, though. Enough of the risks and in-state guys have panned out that the cupboard isn't bare. Embree has to recruit well in a hurry to fill in, but we're not in as bad of shape as one would expect given the above list.

Burned the house down, but left the walls exterior walls standing?

I agree. The one thing I will say for Hawkins is that he did stock the offensive line nicely, even if he did take seven in one class. He was able to land blue chips like Ryan Miller and others, but he also found some gems like Bahktiari, Munyer, and Alex Lewis who were lightly recruited. Bahktiari is going to be a multi-year starter, Munyer was given the spring award for best redshirt freshman, and Embree had some good things to say about Lewis this spring. We should be able to stock up on OL in this class too.

Haha! Thanks for the love. Don't hold it against me, but I went to Ohio State for undergrad. Speaking of recruiting guys with some character issues, it's going to be a very interesting year in Columbus. I'm hoping Braxton Miller gets the call, but in all likelyhood it will be Bauserman, which is great news for Colorado because he's good at keeping the opposition in the game.

I believe the 2011 class is not complete. We are going to get some of the USC commits and transfers from other schools.

So my next question is: who should be on the 70 man roster that will be used in the NCAA 12 game? To me, it's tough cutting it down to 70 from 85, but for the sake of the game, it must be done. The order listed here is as close as I could get based on the depth chart on the official website. Here's my current vote (*=in the game):

How bad are the Buffaloes at CB? That list of players is embarrassing. I don't know why Stefan McClure didn't want to come here and start from day 1.

How bad are the Buffaloes at CB? That list of players is embarrassing. I don't know why Stefan McClure didn't want to come here and start from day 1.

 nice stuff man. I've been bitching about the 70 player limit for years. They usually go after the junior and sophomore classes or gut the bottom of the recruiting class. Gives a team awful holes down the road

Some positions may not be an option but I want to see this program very quickly get to a position where other than guys who are just plain outstanding we redshirt most of our freshman classes. This would be a good year to start. If this means that some of the walk-ons or guys who have disapointed travel then I'm okay with it.

Edited to put Goldberg on scholarship. Congrats to him! He earned it.

Walk on lists still need to be adjusted. Maybe I'll get to it over the weekend.

Made a bunch of edits and got to play with the new Table function (thanks, chip).

The roster should change a lot once camp starts and we know who the Walk Ons will be.

Also of note, there is a possibility (if small) that our junior class may return Will Jefferson and Max Tuioti-Mariner from injury and Bryce Givens from suspension for the 2012 season.

Hmmm. MTM's clock is still running though... That gives him what, 1 or 2 years to play? On completely rebuilt knees? He needs to go on his mormon mission or something. WillJeff coming back would be interesting. Givens coming back would be good, but who knows with that head case. Anyways, the Willjeff story is really what has surprised me since day 1 of his "leaving". Glad he is still around, and hope for his return.

And holy ****, AUTOSAVE feature on posts? Chip did this? Never knew he was competent. Well done sir.

Added in Marc Mustoe. Huge oversight. Thank you for the heads up (you know who you are).

On the depth chart on page 1, I noticed that Tyler McCollough, Nelson Spruce an Austin Vincent are all listed as "commits". All are signed and I believe should be moved over two columns to the left.

I'm stumped, but we should leaf those changes to the Athletic Department. I wood hope they get it updated before the season begins and everything gets nutty.

I wonder what Cliff Branch is up to these days?

You would be bangkok's #1 whore.

2011 roster has been updated based on yesterday's press release from Plati (below) and some other info that has come out:

BOULDER First-year head coach Jon Embree welcomed 105 players to his initial fall camp at the University of Colorado Wednesday, as the Buffaloes reported for a team dinner and then evening meetings ahead of their first time on the field Thursday.

Among the 105 players are 30 newcomers, including 19 freshmen recruits four of whom signed on after National Letter-of-Intent Day last February 2 one junior college transfer, two four-year college transfers (one as an invited walk-on) along with eight other true freshmen walk-ons.

“I’ve been waiting for this day since spring football ended,” Embree said. “The players worked hard over the course of the summer, and we’ve had some leaders emerge just like you want to see. I’m very optimistic about our team and that they are committed to what we want to accomplish.”

Aside from the normal bumps and bruises, all but one of the 105 players are listed as full-go for practice; that’s a far cry from the 23 who were on the injury report the day of the spring game (April 9), with all but two of those players sitting out the affair. Only guard Blake Behrens, who recently aggravated a bicep, is listed as limited to start camp.

The four players who signed with the Buffaloes after LOI day include receivers Tyler McCulloch and Austin Vincent, D.D. Goodson, who will get looks at receiver, running back and kick returner, and center Brad Cotner, who was added after recruit Alex Kelley suffered a broken leg and will delay his enrollment until January.

The coaches welcomed two players who enrolled at CU after graduating from other four-year institutions, taking advantage of an NCAA rule that allows a player an extra year of eligibility if they graduate in four years or less and the school they transfer to offers a degree program not at their previous school. Wide receiver Logan Gray (Georgia) joins the team on scholarship, while punter Mark Brundage (Rice, via Centennial’s Cherokee Trail High School) is one of the invited walk-ons.

Among the 2011 invited walk-ons that will join 84 scholarship players and 12 other walk-on performers in the 105-man camp are four others with Colorado prep ties: Keegan LaMar, a long snapper from Boulder Fairview; River Thompson, a defensive back from Denver East; Casey Walker, a defensive end and the state’s quarterback sack leader last fall from Grand Junction High School; and Richard Yates, a defensive back from Kent Country Day School in Denver, where he played for his father Scott, a former Buff who lettered at safety in the late 1970s.

After one practice and one walkthrough daily on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the first practice in full pads is set for Monday at 8:30 a.m. The Buffaloes open the 2011 season at Hawai'i on Sept. 3 (8:15 p.m., ESPN2).
