Have to imagine Rippy is gone after Spring Ball, right? Need the LB depth?

Rippy, Gehrke immediately come to mind. Also 1 or 2 WR's probably, given what we have added in this class.

Shocking that Rippy is not on that list. I can't imagine a scenario where he is still on the team in the Fall.

Signed 18, had 9 seniors, and added 5 more spots with the 5 above. So we are still 4 spots short. Have to assume 1 or 2 kids will leave voluntarily and that 1 or 2 of this class will Greyshirt.

Already indications that Vaughn, Roberts, and Pursell will be,

Lytle should but don't have any idea if he will.

Rippy isn't listed because he is not one that is graduating?

Have to imagine that Rippy will move on after the spring semester... That will leave the door open for Roberts to enroll immediately.

Man, the TE position is very thin. Have to hope Irwin and Keeney stay healthy all year.

Does anyone have confirmation that those 4 are actually leaving? BH is saying that they are graduating, but that doesn't mean that they can't still play. Only that they could easily transfer if they wanted (much like Webb coming here)

You should NEVER gray shirt an entire OL class. NEVER.

Why does everyone keep thinking that Roberts is going to greyshirt? Vaughn and Pursell - sure...makes sense. But Roberts has some size and strength, and if he needs to a year to get better and acclimate, redshirt him. I keep seeing these statements on him greyshirting - is that mere message-board conjecture, or confirmed possibility?

conjecture based on HCMM stating he likes to greyshirt lineman if possible.

Roberts has a long way to go. Still needs to get bigger but a lot of actual football work is needed too.

If you are bringing in the right kinds of kids I would agree with you. A guy like Lynott who came out of HS physically developed didn't need a GS.

I am though a big fan of gray shirting most OL. Even when they measure fairly close to the same there is usually a big difference between a 18yo kid who is 6'5" 300lbs and a 22-23you young man who has the same measurements.

The GS gives them an extra year to mature, to get physically harder and emotionally tougher.

It also means an extra spring of coaching and development in technique.

I would have no problem with going the GS route with entire OL classes if it was because the guys ahead of them are far enough ahead that they would be buried on the depth chart anyways.

There is a problem if you are doing it because you are recruiting guys who are so far from college ready that they have no hope of contributing even if the guys in front of them are lacking.

Roberts is extremely raw. Whatever position he ends up, he will need a lot of time to learn technique. With saying that, you might as well use a gray shirt to get bigger/stronger. That way the size factor doesn't play in as much as you will need to spend a lot of time on technique type stuff with him. JMO

What if the entire OL class went to something like the gym Matt has? I tend to not follow recruiting, but couldn't this create serious class balancing issues? What does that mean for depth this year? I know you shouldn't start true frosh on the OL, but had no depth at OT. Can't push someone to OT if no one can fill at OG.

Between these two points, it is a Bingo! Why waste a second of RS time or eligibility when you can pick up an extra spring practice worth of experience, after spending time with Matt? Best of all worlds is a GS semester! And , no, using a GS for an entire class of OL doesn't hurt a bit. Class balance can be sorted out using RS's

I stand by my statement. You should never be grayshirting more than a couple OL in any class. It DOES create class balance issues. If Lytle was to grayshirt this year in addition to Vaughn and Purcell, you essentially have 1-2 spots left for the 2017 class a year before signing day and six months before the season starts. Why would you give yourself such little roster flexibility when so many things can happen between February and December?

The idea that every OL prospect we sign should automatically be deemed a multi-year project needs to die. Quickly. You know why? Because the coaches are not offering 100% projects. Start landing some of your early OL offers instead of conveniently covering for your OL coach when he stops recruiting.
