2017 CU Players in the NFL (Plus Draft Thread)

We are back up to a respectable number of alumni playing in the NFL. This needs to be emphasized whenever possible.

Considering the decade of futility, it's really, really incredible how many alumni are playing at the top level in the NFL at key positions. Crawley and Smith have really balled out at the CB position this year, and Bakhtiari and Solder are two of the top LTs year in and year out. Richardson is turning in a very solid season, too, and there's an outside chance Crosby could be a top-30 all-time scorer by the end of the season.

Penalties, belief in Ahkello Witherspoon led to Rashard Robinson trade

The third-round pick in this year's draft came to the league with a reputation for playing sticky coverage but needing to get more physical as a tackler. Although Eagles receiver Alshon Jeffery got the better of Witherspoon for a touchdown last week, Witherspoon mostly held his own otherwise.

In fact, Pro Football Focus graded Witherspoon as the Niners' best player against Philadelphia, crediting him with allowing just three receptions on eight targets. It was enough for Shanahan to declare that Witherspoon will continue as the starter and create a path for Robinson's departure.

Spoon being so good in his first start of his career as to send the previous starter to another team is pretty insane.

(also, it may suggest the 49ers aren't all that good, but I prefer to dwell on the positives)

Worried about Chido. His hamstring must really be bad. He has been on the injury report for many weeks, and still not practicing.

I wouldn't worry just yet. If it's still his hamstring, it takes time. You go back too early, you'll aggrevate it.

How about both being true. Spoon has been fantastic, the guy who was in front of him has had a bunch of PIs and defensive holding calls.

Team that needs draft choices saw a chance to get one while making themselves better.

Just thought I'd check out the "Buffs in the NFL" list... Hopefully Chido gets added to the "Starting" list next year, as he was trending that direction in TC. Also have guys like Spruce and Nembot who have been floating around to various Practice Squads.
