Make a two deep roster for an all Colorado Big 12 team. Players must have played for the buffs during the Big 12 (1996-current).

A few locks I would imagine would be Dan Graham,Andre Gurode, Chris Neaole (sp), Koy Detmer, Chris Brown, Ben Kelly, Michael Lewis, Mason Crosby.

Go ahead make your two deep roster including offense, defense and special teams. This will be fun to look at when I get back in a couple days.

I'll start it out for the offensive skill positions.

    QB- Koy Detmer, Mike Moschetti
    RB- Chris Brown Bobby Purify
    FB- Brandon Drumm, Lawrence Vickers
WR- Rae Carruth, Javon Green, DJ Hackett, Darren Chiaverini
    TE- Daniel Graham, Joe Klopfenstein

Need some time to look at the rest of the roster. Hannibal Navies, Tyler Brayton, Rashidi Barnes, Ryan Johanngmeir, Victor Rodgers, Jordan Dizon, Matt Russell should be added to Unleash's locks off the top of my head. You could make a case for Troutman at RB too but he only played one year.

Thaddeus Washington, Jashon Sykes, and Donald Strickland (in the mix), T. Wheatley (lock). JJ Billingsley?

Hey take it easy . Here's the offense.

    QB- Koy Detmer, Mike Moschetti
    RB- Chris Brown Bobby Purify
    FB- Brandon Drumm, Lawrence Vickers
WR- Rae Carruth, Javon Green, DJ Hackett, Darren Chiaverini
    TE- Daniel Graham, Joe Klopfenstein
OT- Victor Rodgers, Nate Solder, Shane Cook, Justin Bates
OG- Andre Gurode, Ryan Johaningmeir, Marwan Hage, Brian Daniels
    C- Wayne Lucier, Adam Reed
    K- Mason Crosby, Jermey Aldrich

The OL is kind of tough. Melvin Thomas, Andrew Welsh, Tyler Polumbus, Edwin Harrison and names that I'm probably forgetting deserve props too. Lucier was great as a center for his junior year but then moved to guard as a senior. Hage played guard for 3 years and then was a center for his senior year. Gurode was a center his junior year but an All-American guard as a senior. So its tough to put them down in one position.

someone else can do the defense.

This looks pretty good, but I think Scotty McKnight deserves to be somewhere in the mix at WR. I don't think people realize how good he has actually been over his career with a not-so-stellar cast around him.

yeah, I could sub McKnight in for Hackett who really only had that one dominant year in 2003.

Bull****. No one is picking McKnight over Hackett if we're choosing sides. Hackett only had the "one year" because he was a transfer. Also, Derrick McCoy belongs somewhere on this list because he had the biggest baby arm I've ever had the displeasure of seeing.

Depends on if you're ranking players by talent or by what they actually did at CU. Hackett was a great talent and was actually here for 2 years but I think his first year was pretty quiet, stat-wise. He was under-utilized by Barnett/Booger especially that first year, IIRC. McKnight might have to go on there just for what he has produced.

Echo the thought on Hackett over McKnight. McCoy really should be on the list as well.

McKnight has been much better than he should have been, but has also benefited from a QB who only throws to him and little other WR talent. No knock on McKnight, but I liken him to Dusty Sprague. Personally if I were fielding a team right now I would have a hard time choosing between Sprague and McKnight.

Forgotten others I would put up there or even ahead of McKnight would be Stiggers and Savoy (although some of Savoy's career was during Big 8). Bloom should maybe get a mention as well.

Seriously? You have a hard time choosing between Dusty Sprague and Scotty McKnight? No disrespect to Sprague, but McKnight has been the better player by far.

As far as Stiggers (and maybe Bloom) over McKnight? LOL

I like McKnight's reliability and heart but he has no talent. If we had a quarterback capable of spreading the ball around, he would get far less thrown to him. Sprague to me was very similar to McKnight, not a lot of talent but reliable. However, Sprague was much more physical. When Stiggers and Bloom got the ball they were far more electric than either of these two. In my book that makes for a better receiver. McKnights stats aren't winning us any games. Our best receivers over the years have been the ones with speed and size that are capable of making plays.

To say McKinght has no talent is a bad statement. It is a huge talent to get open the way he does. McKnight would be a great slot receiver. The problem is he has had to be the #1 the whole time here. Can you imagine if he had a nickleback on him instead of the #1 cornerback? I think he compares pretty well to Brandon Stokley. I think he even compares to that Texas receiver that Colt loved last year (his name escapes me) You need these type of guys to have a succesful program so I would keep McKnight over Hackett and any of the rest. (Maybe not Bloom cause his kick returning skills)

    Jordan Shipley.

If we are bringing heart and intanglibles into this, I bump Javon Green before McCoy or Hackett. JG had all the talent, size, speed in the world but seemed to only "try" about half the time (and in the 4th quarter). I watched him dog it for an entire spring game or scrimmage in the Neu era....really turned me off the guy.

McKnight may be challenged a bit speed and size wise but to say he has no talent is ridiculous imho. To get open without those is talent in and of itself. He catches the ball well, knows how to get seperation, finds space in zone, and simply produces. Think we are bad now, if McKnight wasnt on the field, it would be way worse.

165 catches, 1900 yards and 15 TDs in his career as a Buff.

He definitely deserves to be in the discussion.

I agree that McKnight is an overachiever and has been very valuable to our team. I also agree with the comment that he would be a good slot receiver and that he should not have been forced to be the #1. His ability to get open is definitely an asset to him. However, I still think some of the others had more impact on better teams. McKnight has made a significant impact in his time here, but on awful teams. I was not meaning to throw him under the bus, I just remembered some of the others having a larger impact on the positive outcome of games. Pair McKnight or Sprague with say McCoy and Hackett and you would truly have a devastating threesome. Too bad Simas is gone, because ti sounds to me like Clemons, Simas and McKnight in the slot would have been quite a threesome.

All McKnight does is get open and catch everything thrown near him.

    Career: 165 receptions / 1,900 yards / 15 TDs

    CU records: 167 (Westbrook) / 2,548 (Westbrook) / 20 TDs (Carruth & McCoy)

Scotty's likely going to finish his career #1 all-time in the 3 big WR categories. Granted, his yards per reception aren't as high as the guys he is passing and he hasn't played on as good of teams, but he's an all-time Buff. No way to I put a guy like Hackett, who had 1 great season, ahead of a guy like Scotty who has led the team in receiving 3 straight season and will probably do it again in 2010. It's time for Scotty to get his just due from Buff fans.

Edit: How is it that Phil Savoy isn't getting any love at WR?
