There is a huge difference between having to get up to beat a couple of decent opponents every year vs. having to be up every week playing in a quality conference. Boise may do well against Georgia, TCU, and AFA. At the same time UNLV, UNM, CSU, Wyo are all virtual bye weeks. Any of the top half of the SEC, Big 10, Big XII, PAC could have a shot at going undefeated if they only had to really focus on 3-4 games a year and could use the others to develop their depth and work on their game.
One of the great things about college football is the fact that the championship isn't about who gets hot at the end of season, it is about who is best over the whole year. Boise thinks that they can go out and play 2-3 quality games, blow out a bunch of walk-overs, and think they deserve a trophy.
I also don't buy the argument that they don't get the chance. College football is about money at the end of the day. Other schools have made the sacrifices neccessary to get the shot at the big time. TCU has passed up a bunch of Texas schools and others to get into an AQ conference. Fresno spent their time playing anyone anywhere and ultimately showed they didn't belong. Boise thinks that they deserve "a fair shot" without earning it.
Bottom line, in my mind, Boise will never deserve a shot at the BCS title game until they earn it with a season worthy of that recognition.
