Goose is going to stab you with a fork.
I am going to make a guess and say admission standards.
so UMass admits anyone ?
No. Their standards may just be lower than CU's or they may cut athletes a little slack like some universities do.
There are enough smart and outstandingly upstanding kids in the world to make a national champion caliber team, and they all play for Stanford.
We already have one on our roster.
I mean the guy had offers from us, OU, and USC and he goes to UMass? Something was up with him. What it was I have no idea...
Maybe this guy:
That's what it was. He was cleared the week of our game.
So UMass took a big risk signing a dude that had not been cleared by the NCAA? Ya that would explain why we didn't pursue him.
No, the UMass admins. have figured out, as distasteful as it may be to their ivory tower wine and cheese attitudes, athletics raises the recognition of an institution whose mission isn't athletics. It doesn't seem to escape most institutions as long as it did (or may still) CU. Admitting 12-20 academic risks, as long as they meet NCAA criteria, is not going to hurt the institution, and may help a great deal.
Admissions at CU are not an issue, quit playing that card. There are still some JUCO issues but the new rules for JUCO transfers has evened the playing field quite a bit.
Its not the written rules on academics and behavior so much as the objectives of the AD as defined by the admin. These unwritten but well understood goals seem to hang over the program.
everyone passed on this guy but Umass for a reason. Not some undefined voodoo hanging over the CU program.
250? I'd better ordre a salad.
But those meatball sandwiches at North Star were so damn tasty.
I swear to God, a lot of you are asking for a stabbin'.
How's this for a unique idea. Lets move XJ and Wes, and maybe Jelly to football and teach them to be TEs, and free up a few hoop schollies? None of them will have a long career in the NBA but might make it in the NFL.
That Umass TE should stay there just this year if he's 26, 27.
I really can't take credit for this idea. Some world traveler started a new thread suggesting this yesterday, I added Jelly just for fun. The thread mysteriously disappeared so someone has pull with the mods. Sorry to disrupt the cart.
