The #2 ranked Men's club team just beat Arizona State 5-4 and will now take on #1 Colorado State in the MCLA National Championship on Saturday.
Cool. I like LAX a lot. CU's got to make this a varsity sport. When DU is doing so well and the CU & CSU club teams are playing for the national title, it makes it clear that the in-state talent is solid and Colorado is a desirable college location for all that LAX talent in the mid- and north Atlantic states.
This is where I state that 'Holic Jr was just named all-state..... He's a JR
I asked Bohn in January "if JR went back east for a few years (his options are all D2-D3 at this point, or high level Club LAX), is there a chance he'd have a program to return to by 2018-2019 and be a part of the inaugural Buff team, and he said "NO Chance, if it ever happens, it won't be that soon".
YMSSR, Nicely done. For those that care, CU's Club program is considered about on par with the top D3 programs, and probably the top D2 programs at this point. They would be competitive with low level D1 programs. SU is better this year, at least they were a couple weeks ago when they faced off.
If you made a D1 program at either CU or CSU (whichever one is first) I have heard a couple high level coaches state that they would be a competitive D1 National power within 3 years. The only D1 program west of the Mississippi is DU. Yet Lacrosse is exploding throughout the West (and all of Canada). Due to access issues, Lacrosse talent in Colorado (vs National competition) far surpasses Hockey talent (my kid has played both at the top level). Colorado kids match up against anyone, with depth in LAX.
Local teams from Colorado (like AAU basketball teams) will do very well against really good programs from Portland, Seattle, San Diego, Minnesota, NorCal, W. Canada and Texas. There will be pockets of good players from all the Western States as well. There is so much talent out west being overlooked by the Eastern schools, that I believe you could build a very good team from these states, with a good proportion of these kids being from Colorado. With that said, it's not Football yet. There aren't a bunch of full-rides. So even a D1 scholarship back east may be more expensive than paying your own way and playing for CU's club team.
Denver area kids are committed to several top 10 programs (or already signed). Best I saw this year was Pete Aplet, Wheat Ridge, who is signed with DU.
If any of you have kids that want to partake in a fun sport, I'd encourage you to try LAX. There's some great youth camps happening this summer in the Boulder area that I'm familiar with, which is a great introduction. There are camps all over the state as well.
Got him but someone else should also since I was going to rep him anyway.YMSSR, Nicely done.
predominantly spring - but there are fall/winter leagues too
Good. I think I'd appreciate soccer more if it was a spring sport. (High school) I actually would have tried out for the team but football>everything else.
Thanks.Got him but someone else should also since I was going to rep him anyway.
Anyway, 'holic is on point about lacrosse and the west coast. Loved playing it in high school, wish I could have kept playing.
Just a word of caution should we ever go DI it would be a rough transition the first few years. CU has and can beaten D2 teams but the talent jump from Club to D2 to D1 is a lot like the CU football team and Alabama. Michigan, a team who dominated at the club level(albeit a much less talented HS pool) has gotten demolished in there 2 season in D1. The quickest way to success would be to make inroads to Canada.
