The Buffs' lacrosse team will try to get by the Cardinal for the 1st time in their young existence as they face off in the 2nd round of the MPSF Lacrosse Championships at 8:00 MT tonight (7:00 Pacific/ local time) at Stanford, who as last year's champs get to host this year. Earlier this year, the Buffs gave Stanford all they could handle before falling 12-10 in a game also contested at Stanford. The Buffs, growing stronger with each game, will be looking to advance to the championship game for the 1st time. In addition to having not yet beaten the Cardinal overall in 5 chances, Stanford has easily knocked off the Buffs the last 2 years at this (semi-final) part of this conference tournament, by a 15-6 score in 2014 and 16-5 in 2015.

The winner of CU-Stanford will play the winner of the USC-Denver game (which starts at 5:00 MT today) in the conference championship game, which is scheduled to start at 2:00 MT on Sunday.

~10 minutes until the opening draw.

Note- in the 1st game today, DU hung tough with #1 seed and highly ranked USC through the 1st half, and were only down 3-4 at that point. However, USC had the better of it in the 2nd half, and end up winning 10-5.

Stanford scores 1st. (And, to "add insult to injury", the goal scorer is from Littleton.)

Looks like Stanford, like the Ducks yesterday, are a full-field pressuring team, so just getting the ball into the scoring area will take great effort.

Yes- After having a VERY rare scoreless game yesterday, Kiernan scores to put the Buffs up 2-1.

Ugh- Buffs with an errant pass on their offensive end leads to a fast break tree goal- 2 all.

And Lautman almost immediately ties it up for the Buffs after a Kiernan draw control. 3-3 with ~19 minutes left in the half.

After a turnover by both teams on their offensive ends, Buffs take the lead 4-3 as Moore gets her 1st goal on the 1st Free position opportunity by either club.

cardinal player gets wide open running towards the net and receives a pass for an easy goal. 4-4

And Stanford scores a free space call with the one player advantage. cardinal up 5-4 with 3 minutes remaining in the half.

And, Stanford gets the draw control on a foul call, and a Buffs defender slips leading to a pass to a wide open tree. 6-4. 1st 2 goal lead by either team.

Looks like the Buffs are going to try and hold for a last shot with ~1:45 left in the half.

A Buff loses it while dodging in for a last shot with ~5-10 seconds left, and the half ends with the cardinal still up 6-4. With the scoring in lacrosse, the Buffs are definitely still in this with a strong 2nd half.

Still 7-4 and Stanford calls a timeout with the ball and 21:33 left.

Cardinal defense not giving the Buffs much of anything so far, as there seem to be no passing lanes for easy shot attempts, and every individual run attempt leads to a quick double team.

Buffs get another yellow. Not looking good with 15:58 left as Stanford goes on offense.

9-4. Buffs technically survive the yellow card player shortage, but the trees score the second after it's over off a free position shot. Announcer saying it's been over 30 minutes since the last Buffs goal.

Buffs finally get on the board again to pull it to within 10-5. Unfortunately, there's only 4 or so minutes left.

My stream has stopped, but looks like stanford scores again and Buffs call timeout with 2:51 left.

Good to see Buffs still fighting hard. They force a turnover with a double team almost at the sideline on the Stanford offensive side, rush it down the field and score a fast break goal. 11-6 in the last minute with Stanford in possession.
