Is this just wishful thinking?

    Am I crazy?

Most postings are people panicking after one bad game. I must be drinking the kool-aid, because I don’t think we have seen the real Buffs yet.

My theory is: the Buffs are waiting for their coming out party with WVU. (Which WVU blew by losing to ECU) The Buffs have purposely not shown much in the first two games. I think the Buffs plan to unleash a large portion of their new offence at the WVU game. A good plan for two reasons: First WVU has to adjust to an offence they have never seen during a game. (Advantage CU] If CU beats an undefeated top ten WVU, they catapult into the top 25. And recruiting catches fire. (Instead ECU gets the bump for beating WVU.)

For the last two Games Buffs have played a run heavy, Dink and dunk offence. This year the Buffs have a lot of WR speed, but have called few plays to exploit it. Why? In the fourth quarter, when CU had not overcome the first half mistakes, they put their foot on the gas and scored 17. They had been grinding the field in 11-12 plays, then all the sudden they were taking out chunks.

Like all of you I have many concerns. None more troubling then the (Swiss cheese) offensive line. I think we have a lot of young talent, I just hope it all comes together soon.

Is this wishful thinking or possible?

I've been saying this to myself and downright praying that it is true....if that's the case it takes a lot Big Balls and a Small Brain to stick to the "dink and dunk" plan when you're on the verge of losing to a Sub-Division Team

i think there is at least some truth to this theory. hawkins has said as much in his press conferences.

plus, against ewu, CU tried to go with a base 4 man rush at all times in the first half. i am pretty sure they were doing this so that they remained vanilla on tape. but, when it got out of hand and the Buffs fell behind, they started bringing the stunts and blitzes in the 2nd half and it changed the entire game.

i think they thought they could stay simple and beat the first two opponents. still, there is no excuse for an almost-loss to a team like ewu.

CU better bring its A game in the next 3.

and, our Buffs have certainly given wvu a recipe for how to beat our ol--- our ol played the whole game confused and a step slow. hopefully that will change.

The OL play scared the **** out of me on Sat. Maybe getting head back will help, but MTM was getting abused, which made Miller have to slide inside on his assignments.

If we get the OL rolling, I like where we are headed.

I would love to believe that your theory is true but I don't think it makes sense. How can we expect to expand/elaborate on the playbook when we can't consistently run the "basic" or "vanilla" plays we are attempting now?

When the LB’s and safeties don’t have to cover the middle and deep, the short game has little chance.

part of it supposedly was that miller was trying to slide in and help mtm with his assignment...

i dunno. i didn't see it live. it sounds like the whole ol played like feces.

If the o-line was playing so badly why didn't we just start chipping people like they do it the pros. Have MTM stand the guy up and have big Mo level him.

I agree with this point, but I still firmly believe that before the coaches will expand the playbook a certain level of comfort has to be obtained in relation to the young players and the offensive system. Out of the many expectations I had before Saturday's game, that one was easily the most prevalent expectation that I didn't think was met. IMHO I don't see how the coaches can feel comfortable adding a bunch a new stuff. I will admit that I hope I am wrong because that's not going to cut it against WVU.

I THINK your right, and hope so. I still think the coaching staff has a lot of work to do getting these kids to execute and have a little discipline.

I hope the formations we haven't shown include some sort of amazingly better run and pass blocking technique...

That's your execution and discipline... either they shape it up before WVU or it ain't gonna matter what play they call.

I don't know... I really really want to believe you're right about the WVU game being a coming out party and that Hawk's been playing rope a dope but... it... just doesn't seem supported by the results. I hate to say this but I really think the coaching staff needs to consider installing a variation of the west coast offense again. There is talent at CU right now but I think it's more geared to power running and timely passing. We can probably all agree that the mind numbingly slow developing draws and end arounds are fooling no one. It's been said many times that to run the spread you need a QB that can keep the defense honest with his feet. Cody is many things but Vince Young he is not. Anyway... that's my two cents but I support the program no matter what happens.

I would like to see more plays to either a TE or slot receiver down the middle. Does anyone know if Speedy has any hands? I would love to see him in the slot and get matched up against some LB in pass coverage.

I think a play like that would work if you have both Scott and Stewart in the game at the same time. Play action to Scott, freeze the LB's, sneak Speedy in behind them, bust it big.

This will happen very shortly....2 words...Riar Geer

But I've been wondering about D-Scott's & Speedy's hands as well, since we haven't seen anything where they motion out to a slot WR spot and run a route....I think that could be very interesting
