Jordan Webb must be benched

We had some good O-Line protection in the first half. Also some good run-blocking, although that was seldom exploited two times in a row. Play-calling that offers few (or zero) chances of execution-success is still the one highlight of this season. I keep waiting for coaches to recognize what the players can do and can't - they get to see the Can'ts so many times.

Both teams had a bit over 70 offensive plays - we end up with 250 yards, they end up with ALMOST 600 (EDIT). I wish I knew which decade this coaching staff would figure this out.

I have never seen a D1 qb with less touch on throwing the deep ball. He has the opposite problem that Cody had. He is always overthrowing the deep receiver by 3-5 yards. Cody was always under throwing them but at least the receiver had a chance then to catch the ball.

For some reason Embree has hitched his wagon to this kid.

Why is football so different than baseball? If you pitcher is stinking up the place, they yank him and go with someone else. Never really understood why football doesn't do the same thing.

Put in Wood or Hirschman.
I was saying the same thing at the game, then Hirsch was put in. He can't move. It looks like he's in pain. That int was decision making.

Webb was not synching up well at all with receivers. Short routes were all thrown at their thighs, and long routes way over thrown.

Maybe giving Hirschman some more time to work out his mistakes would be a good idea instead of running the ball on every play the last drive in the 4th. He isn't going to get better by handing off the ball

Let's stop playing both Webb and Hirschman. I don't care if we have to line up Nembot at QB.

Bad idea. Zero mobility.

Webb is too conservative, he needs to take a chance. give us better odds than just holding onto it and getting sacked

Webb was having trouble completing swing passes 15 yards laterally - I think he hit grass or shoelaces more times than above-the-waist throws. This is NOT passing-accuracy.

Webb is a good kid who works hard and gives you everything he has. Unfortunately everything he has isn't good enough to lift this team above being a bottom of the barrel offense. He doesn't have the arm strength or accuracy to make average recievers effective weapons. He doesn't have the mobility to force teams to dedicate defensive resources to containing him. He doesn't seem to be able to make the reads and responses that allow him to take advantage of smaller windows or momentary opportunities. He doesn't throw deep well enough to force defenses to play back and he doesn't throw short well enough to be successful against the press coverage that results when you can't force the defense to play back.

He would be a great kid to have as a backup. The kind of guy who you could count on to step in at a given moment and manage the rest of a game well enough to give you a chance to win but when teams can prepare for him you are at a dissadvantage above that we already face with our limited running game and lack of gamebreakers on offense.

I keep hearing that Wood is hurt. I wonder if that is true or if if Embree/EB are keeping him benched because he isn't performing like the "coach on the field" in practice. I do know he is very raw but he isn't going to get better stuck to the bench. Difference is that he has the potential to get better with playing time and maybe make some plays that will give us a chance. I also know that all the playing time in the world isn't going to make Webb or Hirsch more talented than they are and the talent level they have isn't enough for us to win.

At this point I would even be happy to see Schrock get some real plays and an opportunity to show what he has. We are losing games by 30+ points, Webb isn't giving us a chance and we aren't going to get any worse trying something different.

Agree. And also the idea that to many coaches have that coaching wins games, not players. They want somebody who will do their bidding, run the plays exactly like they drew them up, see things their way. A wise coach once said it's a lot more about the Jimmy's and Joe's than about the X's and O's. To many coaches refuse to believe that and pick the guys who they see as their reflection on the field.

In the first game of the season I noted that Webb did not hit his receivers in stride - most of the time the ball was behind them or low - and that is on the short to mid-range passes. The situation has not gotten any better. If Webb is our best option then things really are awful. It is not fair to judge Hirschmann or Wood when they go in and the game is already out of hand. I think you have to look at who has the most upside at this point in time. Webb has to have reached his ceiling...he has not really improved as the season has progressed.

Jesus ****ing Christ. Condense yourself.

Honestly, Webb is not even a guy you want as a backup. He's just not good in any fairly prominent role.

For the life of me I can't understand why Webb is still starting.

Here's something I'm waiting for to see from Jordan Webb.

Him throwing a ball on time. I'm not talking about the screen and designed short throw plays that we seem to love, I'm talking about snapping the ball, taking a five step drop and hitting a guy out of a break.

When was the last time you saw Webb understand the defense, make a read and throw a pass on time? I don't know if he's scared to let it go, too worried about getting sacked, or plain doesn't understand where to throw the ball, but he is not getting the job done.

It seems to me like Webbs strategy is snap the ball, stand in the pocket hoping someone comes wide open, and if they don't throw it short to the nearest checkdown. That or take a sack.

Truth is our recieving corp isn't very good, but they are also getting no help from Jordan Webb. We have possession recievers. It's imperative you get the ball to these guys on time so they can use their size or route running ability.

That, and Webb seems to have no accuracy at all. I'd love to see him just start throwing it up for some of our size mismatches to go get the ball, but knowing Webb he'd just put it into their shoelaces or the stands.

If I was Embree, I'd name whoever is second on the depth chart the starter next week and just let him play. All game long. No kid gloves or limited number of plays, let a guy come in, have the huddle to himself, establish a rhythm in the game and see how he does. Sure, might be a disaster, but there's nothing new there...

Not true. Play calling has not helped. Can Webb not roll out and throw? With our line and receivers Webb's margin for error is almost zero, but a playmaker at QB could make up for a lot of our deficiencies. Having an ineffective QB is killing us. Oline gives up a sack one play, receivers can get open the next and Webb misses an open man on the third play then we punt. The three and outs suck the life out of a team. A playmaker at QB would at least give us a shot on 1 out of the 3 plays our offense is out there, then maybe we get some rhythm

Rodgers wouldn't get sacked on a 3 step drop, you have to make a decision. Deciding what we are gonna do needs to come first. We are trying to be power with a finesse oline. Shotgun runs worked at times, look, I hate the spread. I'm more open to it now than ever tho, run it if it works better for this squad. Just pick something and build it.

I just remember in camp JE picking Webb as the starter early because he was so clearly better than the rest. The rest haven't gotten any better in the last 7 weeks.

That's certainly an issue. Another issue is through 1.5 seasons of several blowouts, our backups have not gotten much playing time at all. Not a good situation all around.
