According to ESPN, four candidates have emerged for the Golphers job.
    Houston's Kevin Sumlin
    TCU's Gary Patterson
    Montreal Alouettes Marc Trestman
    Florida DL Coach Dan McCarney

I would kill to get Gary Patterson to Colorado.

Scowlin' Dan would be a great fit for the Gophers but I dunno if he wants to be a head coach again...he's been a position coach/asst head coach at USF and UF since ISU axed him and its been a few years since he had his own program...

I believe Dan got a raw deal at ISU. He took that program about as far as anyone could've taken it. He'd be great at Minn.

I wonder if Eric Bienemy will become a candidate? Obviously he is now a Vikings assistant, but he seems to fit the mold of what they are looking for.

CU could be competing with them for candidates, along with Georgia, Texas A&M, Washington State, Illinois and/or Arizona State.

I agree that Minny acted right to get the jump on the search and send the message to fans and players that it wants to win.

Scratch Georgia and Illinois from that list.

What about Barney? He took NW to Pasadena and know how to beat the corn.

Has he given any indication that he wants to get back into coaching?

I hope he does get back in. But I think he's going to have to take a job at a smaller school first. It's a bum deal, because he's a great coach, but he'll never really overcome the scandal imo.

And yes, Gary does want to coach again.

I heard an interview with Barney on the Fan last November that he does want to get back into coaching but with the CU scandal he is not getting any calls.

Barney needed to move on. We needed to move on. A change had to be made, we just chose to hire the wrong guy. Hindsight being 20/20, we would have been better off keeping him. However, I don't know that he's much more than an 8-win/year guy. Of course, we'd love that here now, but it's not exactly the level to which we had grown accustomed.

I'm not sure how you can say this. Our program was spiraling. There's nothing to support your statement that CU would've been better off. His team quit on him.

Only job I could see Patterson taking is A&M after Sherman gets canned...A&M will have all their extra "guaranteed" money so they can afford it despite their AD's debt to the school.

Patterson would never leave the state?

Still a lot of games to be played and Zooker and Richt still have "heat" on them.

Beating Penn State this year isn't exactly something that will save Zook, much like beating UGA shouldn't save Hawk (not that Zook is as bad as Hawk).

Likewise with Tennessee for Richt at UGA. I think he has to win 2/3 of the remaining SEC games (Kentucky, Florida, Auburn) while beating Idaho State and Georgia Tech to have a "guarantee" of returning. A win over Florida might offset a loss to GaTech, but I don't see much hope for Richt without a dramatic on-field improvement as some of the many issues he is facing are also off-field issues. The Bulldog faithful will not stand for being passed up in the SEC East by Kentucky and South Carolina.

I tell you what. Replace Brewster with Hawkins and (my hope) Horton with McCartney and Mike Bohn could damn near completely plagiarize this press conference for tomorrow afternoon and be just fine.

Side note: Someone help me remember, what's Dungy's connection to UM? I know he was the Vikings DC for a long time, but I don't remember any specific ties to the U. (I know that will set some of you off, but I have Minnesota heritage, and when back in the Twin Cities, Minny is ALWAYS referred to as the U.)

Patterson makes $2.5 million a year at TCU. He's not coming to CU.

I don't think he's all about the money. CU provides him a much bigger opportunity to prove himself at the highest levels of CFB.

Patterson to A&M makes the most sense for him and that job will be open in 40 days.

He sure as hell isn't going to take a paycut to come here and CU can't afford to even match his current salary, so where does that leave us?

If he leaves TCU, he'll get a raise. I would be willing to lay money on that.

If he leaves TCU and there's a possibility CU can get him, I bet our boosters would step up. :gobuffs:

I would love Patterson. His teams play the kind of ball I love to watch. But I know he's not coming here. Neither is Saban or Urban Meyer.

Good assessments. But remember, the bar isn't set very high at Illinois. PSu aside, they've hung tough against a brutal schedule thus far. If Zook scratches to 6-7 wins, he is more than safe. The fanbase has been very happy this year, not so much for Zook, but because we finally got a quality OC and DC in place. Zook is just a figurehead now.

we don't need a 2.5mm per year coach to turn this around. paying patterson superstar money to come isn't the right choice, imho.

this is still an attractive job, especially since we are headed to the p10. if they open up the search, they'll find a long, long list of amazing candidates.

I'd love to see Patterson leave Fort Worth, if only to see TCU slink back down into mediocrity. Getting sick of them.

I know you will never, ever budge on this issue. I just think there's something to his name always coming up for every opening. His name was thrown around for a long time for the KSU job. He waited to the last minute to remove his name from consideration. He did the same in 07 with the Gophers job.

I think he wants to leave, he's just trying to find the right fit.

It's not about budging, it's about accepting reality.

I think his name comes up because he's coaching in a non-BCS school. And he's kicking ass.

You may be right and he might leave TCU, I dunno. The only thing I do know is that he's not coming to Boulder.

Rino Reality. It's a dark, cold world. One that I don't want to venture anywhere near again. :smile2:
