AZ's Buff Scoop was able to secure an interview with Mike Bohn for its web site. I got permission to post an excerpt for AllBuffs.

BS [BuffScoop]: Facilities-wise, everyone is very excited about the new basketball/volleyball facility going up. Are there any future facilities that you are ready to embark on or are in the process of planning?

MB [Mike Bohn]: Yes. Right now we just need to acquire the funds to get done what we are doing and what we need to do. Buff nation needs to stand up and lend their support where they can and when they can because we have so many exciting possibilities that we can put together but we cannot do much without a collaborative effort from everyone involved. We really need everyone's help. We have the support of our administration and our University factions. We are all on the same page up here and everyone wants us to be successful as we move into the Conference of Champions. As for current facilities upgrades, everyone knows about the new basketball/volleyball practice facility but we have other things happening, too. We are planning on putting up two new video boards in Folsom Field on the north and south ends of the field. The big one will go from pillar to pillar on Dal Ward. We would like to expand Dal Ward to get a larger weight room in there. We would like to renovate the Flatirons Club. We would also like to set-up a hospitality area on the west side of the stadium for pre-game festivities.

In order to make all these things happen we have got to harness the fan base and get them on board because everyone else is on board with it; the president, the chancellor, everyone. If fans would love to help us achieve our goals we are anxiously awaiting for more of them to get involved. We have such a passionate fan base and definitely have a large contingent of the base that is supporting us and will continue to support us. What we need to do is get as much of Buff nation involved as possible. Anyone can donate to the future of this proud program by calling 303-49-Buffs and donating to this great cause for our vision of top-notch athletics to flourish. Every little bit we can get will help a lot. Think about the effect that someone like Tom Marsico had. With his help, we were able to take that money and go get a bubble for our football team which has been huge for recruiting. We truly need everyone to play a part in our ascension so when we do achieve our goals we can all feel great about the fact that it was a collective effort.

We have already accomplished so much in that regard with the new locker rooms, basketball coaches' offices, the bubble, and things like that. Eric and Jon were telling me how they didn't have a bubble when they were here and how it is such a great competitive advantage to have facilities that you can be proud of.

It was a very lengthy interview and Mike Bohn was very candid. Other questions he gave thoughtful answers to included: "Speaking of goals, with regards to football, what exactly are your goals for next year and beyond in the new Pac-12 Conference?"; "When the news of the Pac 12 expansion came about, a lot of CU fans became interested in the possibility of adding new sports. It is well-known that the Pac 12 has a wide variety of athletics, many that CU does not currently possess. Are there any plans to add new athletic programs in the future? If so, which ones would come first?"; and, "CU fans always talk about the academic standards at CU and how they are too tough and if we really want to compete at a high level we need to specifically lower the athletics admissions to get in a wider range of student-athletes. How much of that is true and what are the current guidelines for getting in student-athletes?".

I know there are strong and differing opinions on AZ here. But this was excellent work. Hopefully an example of things to come. LINK

Thanks, Nik. Anyone know the timetable for the new video boards for Folsom? Is it a done deal, or still on the "want to do" list?

"so we can feel great about it being a collective effort". puh-leeez.

serious doublespeak. just to be the cynic at the party here a minute, so according to Bohn the admins are all on the same page and it's up to the fans to fork over the cheese to them to make it happen? what have these guys done to earn the fans faith at this point? i know that's how it works, but how many different ways can the guy ask for money. seems like some people in the AD have internalized the lock-steel opinion that the CU fan base is the problem....after the last 5 years? after no post-season play in either mens revenue sports.....minus the Indy Bowl...for 5 solid years.

not sure how i feel about the AD tacking this line of thinking into the brave, new future.

it's like Hawk's claim that there was "too much negativity around the program" without the step back to ask why that is? there seems to be mentality that the AD is "doing it's job" and the handicap is the fans? the ones who were "negative".

not a bold statement of accountability, imo.

We do tend to want champagne on a beer budget, to use the popular phrase.

I don't think it's inappropriate to ask the fans to get more involved with the program. And he didn't just say money. Organize a local Buff Club chapter or watch parties. Attend them if you don't already. These things matter.

As far as money goes, I do hope that more people choose to join the Buff Club.

there were some great ideas on allbuffs about donating easier. my two favorites were to have a link that allows you to donate right on the website. Why even involve making us call when we can just drop some money with a few keystrokes. The second was do a project specific donation. The meter is a great idea and if they said the video boards will cost $1.3 million dollars and people can donate specifically for that and watch the amount of funds raised as soon as their donation is made, I think it would help. the school is always thinking in terms of huge donation, but I think that micro-donations would be more successful.

I would like to see them set up a separate fund fore facilities so that we could donate to that. I know I would - the lousy $100.00 or so I could spare once my tax return comes back. Like it or not, our entire fanbase does need to step up. It stinks that we don't have an Uncle T-Boone or Phil Knight but that is no excuse to put all of it on the back of the university. I think we do expect champaign on a beer budget. I'm not calling anybody out on this board because I know a lot of you guys pay a pretty penny for parking and season tickets and I know that there are some people on this board that have already donated more than I will ever be able to in my lifetime but Mike is right, we do need everybody to chip in. Whether its $100.00 a year or $100k.

TCU is doing a 100 million dollar upgrade to their old ass stadium and it was paid for by the fans/boosters and the funds were raised in 8 months. Tommy Tubberville also helped raised the funds from the Tech boosters for their new facility upgrades.

We need more small to mid range donors and I think if Mike could start a specific fundraising campaign for new football facilities people would be more apt to donate because they would see something tangible that their money would be going to instead of just blindly hoping that it goes to the facilities when they write checks to the athletic dept.

I put something up here a couple of months ago to allow cash donations at games. $5-$20/fan adds up quickly over a six game home schedule.

Allbuffs should registar as an On-Line local Buff Club chapter.
"25" members who post over and over, chat, watch parties, tailgate, t-shirts, season tickets, donors and burritos.

Platnum AB membership might be ~$150 and includes annual BuffClub membership, annual Allbuffs membership, a T-shirt, and BnG rep bars. Add'll funds above membership fees go to fund a scholly or facilities donation on behalf of the members.

In return, CU gives the junta swag to award or abW00t off.

Is that the kind of thing Bohn and Nik are talking about?

A few weeks ago Bohn was talking about the athletic department having another multi year contract available to use for a coaching position. I just heard a rumor that Bohn actually reworked his existing contract and gave his multi year contract up to be used by the football team. Thus allowing EB to sign the multi year deal, while still having Kiseau on one.

It does look like they've improved the ability to donate by clicking. The home page of the Buff Club site has a "Donate Now" button which takes you to a login site. I was playing around and it looks easy enough to create an online account (sadly, it's a different login account from the one you would have on cubuffs.com if you're a season ticket holder) and easy enough to donate $$ once you've created the account.

Not perfect, but a 1000 times better than it was 2 months ago.

This is what I think we're missing the most. I don't recall any specific & targeted fundraising campaigns.

Well said. It was a mere 13 months ago the English Patient was telling me the 2009 version of the Buffs were competitive. The admin. has a long way to go with me to establish they are really interested in a successful compettive AD. Right now, their collective tits are in wringer because people are fed up with the sub-mediocrity that aws the Juicebox era and voted with their wallets because every other opportunity to voice their opinion was either foreclosed or ignored.

I have a hard time believing they have changed their stripes and the second they get the cash, I suspect they will go right back to being the arrognant condesecending pinheads they have been for the last five years. I don't believe for a second they get the concept that the AD is the connection the overwhelming moajority of alums have with the University. IMO, they view the AD as a dirty little dept. they have to keep around...that sure is they way they act towards the folks who are interested in the AD being a success...

One development that is changing some of this stuff is the new board for the Foundation. A few of the members are very pro sports and one of them is even crazy enough to understand the internet. This mild improvement in CUBuffs.com is a product of him directly complaining about the process used on the site to give. The real improvement will be when "donate now' hits the from page and clicks to an upsell/POS page.

This is a really, really good idea. Maybe too good, if you know what I mean. Might be some kind of rules against it. I don't know. If it could be done legally, it would be unique in all of college sports as far as I know. Great idea, skiddy. Rep coming your way.

bah - ymssr. I'll catch you again sometime after your next flash of brilliance.

    Thanks for supporting this concept.
I'm growing fond of the idea of having a second Buffclub membership by the name of "Skidmark, care of Allbuffs.com" circulating through the CU Foundation's databases. Less harassing phone calls, too.
