AZ's Buff Scoop was able to secure an interview with Mike Bohn for its web site. I got permission to post an excerpt for AllBuffs.
BS [BuffScoop]: Facilities-wise, everyone is very excited about the new basketball/volleyball facility going up. Are there any future facilities that you are ready to embark on or are in the process of planning?
MB [Mike Bohn]: Yes. Right now we just need to acquire the funds to get done what we are doing and what we need to do. Buff nation needs to stand up and lend their support where they can and when they can because we have so many exciting possibilities that we can put together but we cannot do much without a collaborative effort from everyone involved. We really need everyone's help. We have the support of our administration and our University factions. We are all on the same page up here and everyone wants us to be successful as we move into the Conference of Champions. As for current facilities upgrades, everyone knows about the new basketball/volleyball practice facility but we have other things happening, too. We are planning on putting up two new video boards in Folsom Field on the north and south ends of the field. The big one will go from pillar to pillar on Dal Ward. We would like to expand Dal Ward to get a larger weight room in there. We would like to renovate the Flatirons Club. We would also like to set-up a hospitality area on the west side of the stadium for pre-game festivities.
In order to make all these things happen we have got to harness the fan base and get them on board because everyone else is on board with it; the president, the chancellor, everyone. If fans would love to help us achieve our goals we are anxiously awaiting for more of them to get involved. We have such a passionate fan base and definitely have a large contingent of the base that is supporting us and will continue to support us. What we need to do is get as much of Buff nation involved as possible. Anyone can donate to the future of this proud program by calling 303-49-Buffs and donating to this great cause for our vision of top-notch athletics to flourish. Every little bit we can get will help a lot. Think about the effect that someone like Tom Marsico had. With his help, we were able to take that money and go get a bubble for our football team which has been huge for recruiting. We truly need everyone to play a part in our ascension so when we do achieve our goals we can all feel great about the fact that it was a collective effort.
We have already accomplished so much in that regard with the new locker rooms, basketball coaches' offices, the bubble, and things like that. Eric and Jon were telling me how they didn't have a bubble when they were here and how it is such a great competitive advantage to have facilities that you can be proud of.
It was a very lengthy interview and Mike Bohn was very candid. Other questions he gave thoughtful answers to included: "Speaking of goals, with regards to football, what exactly are your goals for next year and beyond in the new Pac-12 Conference?"; "When the news of the Pac 12 expansion came about, a lot of CU fans became interested in the possibility of adding new sports. It is well-known that the Pac 12 has a wide variety of athletics, many that CU does not currently possess. Are there any plans to add new athletic programs in the future? If so, which ones would come first?"; and, "CU fans always talk about the academic standards at CU and how they are too tough and if we really want to compete at a high level we need to specifically lower the athletics admissions to get in a wider range of student-athletes. How much of that is true and what are the current guidelines for getting in student-athletes?".
I know there are strong and differing opinions on AZ here. But this was excellent work. Hopefully an example of things to come. LINK
