Official CU Head Coach Search Thread - Primetime

Wilner is playing 3-D chess. If he lays the groundwork for a completely imbecilic hire and we end up with a guy like Herman or Mendenhall, it appears that we are punching above our weight class.

Meanwhile, if we hold true to form and hire a doorknob, he looks downright prescient.

To be fair, CU has done this twice now in a 10 year period, so its not completely out of the realm of possibility for the group think at CU.

Post-Barnett, our hires have been:

1. DH - on paper and national perception, a great hire in our footprint only trailing Bowden in win % that just didn't work out.

2. JE - complete head scratcher no other P5 program in the country would have considered.

3. MM - rebuild specialist in our footprint with the perception being it was a solid hire.

4. MT - national perception that this was a big time hire.

5. KD - engendered nothing but pity or ridicule across the sports world.

6. Damn well better at least be a hire of someone who would legitimately be able to get the HC job at other P5 programs. Hoping for a minor miracle of, "Holy fvck! CU actually stepped up and landed that guy? Maybe they're on their way back."

No way Sanford should be our new head coach, but this is very cool.

Hell yeah, this is what I’ve been harping on for years. RG had 0 outreach to students, no hype, no attempt at engaging the community when I was in school

My fraternity liked the concept of group ticket purchases for Greek life, then using house GPA as the arbiter of seating position. Better grades = better seats. No interest in even entertaining ideas like that, or other community engagement initiatives though

I hate that I love this.

It shouldn't be such a breath of fresh air to see CU Football engaging with students.

Or, for that matter, CO communities, in-state alumni, out-of-state alumni & watch party groups, and other campuses in the CU system. But particularly with students.

This type of stuff has to be a big part of what CU does as a norm.

it used to be a thing. i had assumed it still was...

football coaches and a couple of star players would do a road show throughout the state and including the other campuses. first time when i was a kid and actually got to "meet" the coach and some players in person was via one of these rural road shows...

He gets how important outreach is. Good. Now hopefully our ass-clown AD will after watching that. Sanford shouldn't get the HC job.....but I don't have an objection to keeping him as an offensive position (not coordinator) coach.
Adams would be awful. Dumb**** literally DM'd me on twitter in January of 2018 saying this: "Nothing more motivating than working in a situation where no one believes In you. Awful for the program and worse for recruiting. But I’m glad to know where everyone stands today. I won’t soon forget. Can’t wait to prove everyone wrong."

As far as Wilner throwing his name out there.........I've been telling you guys he's a **** journalist for years now.

The Adams thing is so out of left field it has me wondering if there’s an angle being played. Literally nobody is putting his name out there as a possible HC hire - anywhere, but the P12 beat writer drops his name as a candidate for CU? Seems too weird to be a complete coincidence. Is Wilner getting played or is he the one doing the playing?

Klayton Adams didn’t exactly leave Boulder with a bunch of class when he was sent packing (to take a job as an assistant to the assistant offensive line coach of the Indianapolis Colts). If he were hired, Adams would face a complete revolt of the fan base on day one.

The whole idea is farcical. I’d be very surprised if Adams and Rick George even liked each other.

Wilner is played and Wilner plays, at the same time
Hi all!

The Tiger Woods dude on 247 is an absolute idiot and the people over there are falling for it. They are also idiots, so not unexpected.
Curious why you think he's an idiot? His top names are pretty much in line with the posters here that I consider "smart" w/r/t CFB and coaching candidates.
