Running back Darrell Scott is frustrated with minor injuries that have plagued the first half of his freshman season at the University of Colorado, but his position coach also believes there's another source of anxiety.

That sounds like he's just frustrated by injuries and not meeting the unrealistic hype a lot of fans have placed on Darrell's shoulders. jmho on this one.

I don't know what's going on in the locker room. Maybe I'm wrong and Iggy is correct. But as of right now, no one knows besides Darian and Darrell. We'll all see how it plays out.

One thing is for sure though. I'm not going to question this kid's character based on a couple of quotes in a story. That's just me though.

Having ran into Scott, hes a great kid. He's obviously just frusterated with the injuries (like most people have said). Can you imagine having the hype he had coming into the season and not being able to perform due to things that never happened in highschool. College is tough enough, having all that weight on your shoulders has to be overbearing to say the least.

I'm not sure why it's double posted anyway. Isn't this article posted already in the Newsroom?

This sounds like the case. I'm beginning to think we maybe should have redshirted him if he was that out of shape when he got to campus (I'm 75% confident the injuries and his late appearance are related), but then I could have imagined the CAPS LOCK RAGE that would have been released on this board if we had used a redshirt on him.

I don't necessarily get what Hagan is trying to do here...now if you're 100% certain that he's not that hurt and should play through it, ok then provide the motivation, but I highly doubt he knows how much pain Scott's going through.

Ultimately I'm sick of all the talk about this kid...he's banged up, so deal with it and stop with the pressure & criticism...we've got a couple other RB's that are doing just fine out there

This is sounding scarily familiar to Marcus Houston and Eric Bienemy a few years ago and we remember how badly that turned out. I don't see what good it does to be "a nagging bug" (harass? call out? question his manhood?) to a player if they are hurt. Let him get fully healed and then put him in. Getting one or two carries a game isn't helping him recover and it sounds like DS is already tuning him out. Not a good sign.

    :iagree:

I understand both sides, DS wants to be healthy so he can do his best and Hagan wants him to understand that at this level players will always be hurt so he must learn to play through the pain. The rub is in whether DS is hurt and doesn't like the pain or is injured and doing damage by trying to play on the injury. Hard to say who is on the mark. To me it seem like Hagan is being a bit of a prick.

How bad did that turn out. Marcus ended up an overated POS. Bienemy was 100% correct with him. Hagan is doing the same, nothing wrong with it. Weclome to being just another number at a major university. He came in with a lot of hype but that is all it is. He was a great RB in high school....so was AL Bundy. He has to learn how to fight through the pain and run the rock. This is the BIG XII not high school.

^^ ... how you handle your players has a huge effect on how they develop and end up turning out.

This kind of clears up the article from BuffZone. This article doesn't make it seem as bad as the article below posted a couple of days ago...

    http://www.buffzone.com/news/2008/oct/15/rb-scott-attempts-battle-past-injuries/
I think it's all much ado about nothin'. I'm sure Scott was frustrated at practice and they both said somethings they didn't mean based on the frustration of DS and DH having a touch practice. But I honestly hope if his injuries are significant enough that they won't even dress him on Saturday. Pushing "nagging" injuries only make it worse and create long-term problems. I know from experience, originally playing college baseball... I pushed myself to the point that I can't play anymore.

    Buffs14,
No, but before Houston got hurt in his third or fourth game (or close to it) he actually had put up over 100 yards in each of his games, including one against USC. Then he got hurt, started getting criticized and called names and he checked out. My basic point is why is Hagen talking about this in the papers? If he needs to question or challenge him, do it on the practice field. DS has shown some flashes and I'd hate to see his position coach call him out in public.

I understand...I don't believe Hagan is running to the papers to start problems, however when your top star is not playing well the papers are going to ask., You can be sure Hagan is challenging him on the field as well. Hagan is paid to motivate and coach his players, lets not second guess how he does his job. He knows DS better then anybody, who are any of us to say what DS needs. DS has to prove himself on this level...he is young but to date he has not proven anything.

Not arguing your point, but you could have said the same things about Bienemy. Hagen needs to be careful. This goes for all the players, not just DS.

Brian Lockridge provides an other interesting angle. This guy played with a hernia because he is blue collar. He played with pain without telling DH about it. When we find out it was a hernia, the press ran a story about how BL had a responsibility to come clean with his pain earlier. These RB's are damned if they tell the coach they have pain, and damned if they don't.

I think Hawk told DS today "It's Division I Football! It aint intramural brother!"

Bad joke. I hope his injuries will quit nagging him soon so we can see what he can do.

I think that being the superior player and dominating the opposition has come so naturally for DS, that he is a bit shellshocked right now. I think DHagen is just trying to get him into the mindset of how tough this is when you are not 100% healthy and 200% better than anyone else on the field. I am sure that he has talked more privately to DS about the blocking issues and line continuity (plus the caliber of defenses we have played this year with that hurt and ever changing OL), if the OL has to go out and play hurt, then everyone has too. It is a good lesson that DS is learning right now. And if he can't handle that, then he is not tough enough mentally to play college ball anyway.

I think some people here may never have played football. Even in HS the coaches rag your ass out everyday, and mistakes are called out for all to see and your toughness is questioned in front of the team daily. If you can't handle that, you will not be a big time player. you can't go on a field and dominate if you are a sweet guy who just wants to be everyone's friend. You have to have an attitude that you are better than everyone else and you will kick anyones ass who says otherwise. DS did not have that atitude so much, because he really WAS the dominant player who kicked everyone elses ass. Now it is not as apparent, and he will have to learn to have more grit and fight. This is all a good thing IMO. I hate to have the 'wait till next year' feeling, but these kids with more strength training, proper diets, pushed by peers, and a OL with capable starters and tested and experienced backups will look alot different. Even if hansen does not play this year, hawk's statement gives a bit more credence to the rumours we have heard on how Tyler is doing. QB battle will be interesting in the offseason.
