Anyone see this week's Experts?
Colorado football was the topic of Campus Connection. Very interesting points made.
Mike Bellotti discussed:
1. Cal being underrated and a very good football team.
2. Likes Dan Hawkins. "He's a very, very good football coach."
3. Outdated facilities make recruiting difficult.
4. Have been good so it can happen.
5. Assistant coaches only get one year contracts so no security and consistencyfrom year to year. Always looking for a job.
6. Revenue needs to increase. "Can't pay the tariff to get out of Big 12 next year."
Charles Arbuckle (former UCLA linebacker)
1. Doesn't see the players "by in" to the program and playing hard.
2. Cal is a difficult team to play early because they start year like barn burners and then fade at end of season.
3. Recruiting has seemed to decrease in California and Texas.
Jesse Palmer
1. School creates a competitive disadvantage for Colorado football coach.
a. Must declare a major. Strong academics.
b. Noise ordinance on campus. Difficult to go on road when haven't practiced with noise. Causes lots of mistakes.
Pat Forde (I believe a sports writer lived in Colorado)
1. Different mentality in Colorado. Enjoy football but not obsessed.
2. No Mega Money boosters to develop program like occurs at Texas, Oklahoma, Oregon. You could get away with this in the past but not any more.
Very interesting. Might be able to find it archieved on the web.
