We now take you to Miami, Florida.

Miami Prez, Donna Shalala, is not bending over and taking it:

"Many of the charges brought forth are based on the word of a man who made a fortune by lying. The NCAA enforcement staff acknowledged to the university that if Nevin Shapiro, a convicted con man, said something more than once, it considered the allegation 'corroborated' -- an argument which is both ludicrous and counter to legal practice."

that, by the way, is a steaming pile of horse dung. what the **** does "legal practice" mean in this context?

Who knows? But it sounds good. And she learned at the knee of the master of public & media manipulation during her time in Washington.

Yep, better than the standard non support you get from CU when anything resembling a problem arises with the AD. Go turtle, stick your foot in your mouth and hope that it blows over. None scandal then ensues. Rather see the pres come out and defend the AD and try to at least have an impact on the story line. CU leadership could learn a thing or two from schools that place importance on athletics.

It means that something isn't corroborated unless it comes from more than one source. I have no idea if she's full of **** or not, but one witness saying something on two occasions isn't "corroboration."

If the NCAA brings Lack of Institutional Control charge, they better drop the hammer.

Why is the NCAA still relevant.....

Somehow the visual of Donna Shalala bending over doesn't seem like the sort of event that would attract any offers to give it.

To give you the local perspective, Miami Media is hammering the NCAA, saying....

>The investigation came up with nothing and that it is nearly entirely based on the word of a convicted felon.
>The investigation was so bungled the NCAA had to fire one of their own.
>They are asking what does the NCAA do, except enrich themselves (they reportedly have $500 million in the bank).
>The NCAA doesn't provide any leadership on health issues for the players, they don't provide a level playing field between conferences (SEC oversigning often mentioned, specifically Bama and Auburn).
>Lots of speculation on how long it will be until the NCAA is completely disbanded.

Media seems to be pretty much 100% behind the U on this one, at least from what I'm reading and hearing.

Miami is somehow made to be victim of sorts due to improper investigation by NCAA. Genius move. Look at this absurd quote:

''We deeply regret any violations,'' Shalala wrote in the university's response, ''but we have suffered enough.''

What?

that one caught me eye too haha

I have to respect Miami's fight here. They're defending themselves against what they feel are unfounded allegations. If CU had done the same, we would be a lot better off today. I suspect Miami sees what happens when you sit back and take whatever the NCAA wants to dish out and they're going on the offensive.

What?

To an extent true, they have to look at her on a regular basis, that is suffering.

Still not enough though.

For those of you who don't feel like reading all the articles and opinion pieces, here are the basic Cliff's:

1. Miami allowed Nevin Shapiro, a con man, unfettered access to its scholarship athletes.
2. Shapiro facilitated all sorts of extra benefits, including some now famous parties on his yacht.
3. The NCAA is saying that this shows lack of institutional control and deserves a big penalty. Ruling to come soon.
4. Miami contends that relying on the same scumbag Shapiro for the bulk of its evidence, having major improprieties within the NCAA that caused the organization to recently need a housecleaning, and considering that Miami already self-imposed some significant penalties such as post-season bans... that the NCAA should call it a day and not impose any penalties despite Miami acknowledging that it committed serious violations.

5. Shalala in pictures taking checks directly from aforementioned con man is having a really rough time right now.

And, she didn't call anyone a cúnt in the process of said defense.

So the investigators lied to witnesses, and that is unethical? Well then every cop I know is unethical because that is what they do in criminal investigations....
