and why? On another board someone posted AH's stats in a letter to the Lou Goza committee asking why he isn't a finalist.

    Here is the letter:

Does anyone have access to Mason's stats at CU and who is better, in your opinion?

Too bad he spent 4 years in lincoln. Automatically disqualifies him from having a "great" career when he was spending his life in that miserable ****hole.

I don't know Mason's stats, and as much as it pains me to say it, but Henery was damn good at his job.

I'm guessing Crosby's stats are not going to be as good, in part because Hawkins had him attempted several 50+ and 60+ yarders his senior season instead of playing field position.

EDIT: He was 19 of 28 his senior year, but had four misses from 50-59 yards and three misses from 60+.

Henery deserved to be on the Groza list this season; however, the announcer in the CU-NU game who said he might be the best of all-time was smoking crack.

as a college kicker, i'll take Mason, S. Janokowski, to name a couple off the top of my head over Henery. Those Mexican brothers who used to kick for ASU in the 80's.

Henery, just because he was an elite punter to boot (pun intended) and had great games on bigger stages (basically single-handedly kept the Huskers in the CCG last year, not to mention the damned 57 yarder)

Depends, how many of his (and Crosby's) can be categorized as 'game winning' FG's? How many game their team the lead? How many we're tack-on's? On the Road?

How a kicker performs under pressure is just as important as their overall stats.

Honestly, I don't know the answer.

    Crosby=longest FG at sea level

Both are good, Henery is a little pencil dick though. He annoys me. Crosby is a mean texan!:smile2:

I think objectively, Henery is the best I have seen. Mason is the best long-field goal kicker I have seen. That dude could have kicked a 70 yarder in Folsom.

As much as it pains me to compliment a ****er, Henery is a great kicker & punter. He'll be cashing NFL checks soon.

I think what is keeping him off the Groza list is his low number of attempts.

Iowa's Nate Kaeding probably deserves mention.

While I would have to give the overall edge to Henery, it certainly is close. Sorry.

Mason Crosby was the NFL's leading (non QB) scorer last year. 'Nuff said.

He went to NU which means he couldn't get into a good school so that knocks him down 20% on everything so Crosby.

Stats are only as good as the opportunities to earn them. Mason was a lock from inside 45 and had the best long leg I ever saw from a college kicker. He was also a better kick-off guy. Henery is very good at KOs but Mason would get touchbacks kicking against the wind. He was also very good at placing kickoffs away from the dangerous returners.

Henery is very good and I would be happy with either one of them but as a pure college placekicker I would take Mason.
