December 13th:

Rivals: #46
Scout: #37
ESPN: outside Top 30
247s: #41

Guys who would have the biggest impact (among those I think we have a decent shot at):

CB Yuri Wright (4/4/4/5)
LB Deaysean Rippy (4/4/4/4)
TE Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick (4/4/4/4)
OT Nick Davidson (4/4/4/3)
RB Wes Brown (4/3/4/4)
TE Taylor McNamara (4/3/4/4)
CB Kenneth Crawley (4/3/4/3)
DE DeForest Buckner (4/4/3/3)
FB Christian Powell (3/3/3/2)*
DE Morgan Breslin (4/2/NR/3)

*positional need and he's a top 10 FB on Scout, ESPN and 247s. On Rivals, Norgard already filled that positional need as a top 10 FB so the impact wouldn't be as great on that site

I see a legitimate shot at 5 of those guys, but expect 3 of them.... we could also completely strike out

We get 2 of them this week. After that, JE and EB need to earn their pay in a big way. I don't think we are leading for more than 1 of the others.

Right now we haven't landed a commit that has a single 4* rating from any of the 4 services. Let's hope that changes soon.

Seems your standards are pretty high.
I can see how my post seems like that. And it is true, I do have high standards. They haven't even gotten us to CU's historical level of recruiting (my standard). That said, they've already done a solid job given that CU is no longer anywhere near its historical level.

If they get 2 of those guys, it starts looking like a "good" job. However, we took a huge flier on these guys, and a big part of that was their recruiting acumen. They got us 3 wins this year. They need to make up the difference in recruiting, so I expect a "great" job.

Sarcasm.:bounce:

Anyway, I agree with you and I also agree with Nik's assessment that we need to close this class with some true difference makers. The coaches need to earn their paycheck on the recruiting trail this year.

Dammit! Shoulda known.

Not bad after the last couple years. A couple of the big impact players listed and we could have a decent final ranking. I really want Yuri and Rippy!!!

Nik, what are our rankings by the services in conference? We used to be at the bottom earlier in the year, but I have a hard time believing being in the 30's and 40's nationally would have us there now.

Rivals: 9th
Scout: 6th
ESPN: n/a
247s: 6th

We need O Line, Rippy and at least 2 CB

I don't know if we get more than one person on Nik's list.

About middle of the Pac except rivals. It looks like Utah needs to really step up their recruiting however.
According to Rivals they have two 4*'s and a lot of mid-level 3*'s and a few 2*'s so it's not much different than ours looking at it like that but I haven't watched any film on their commits. Utah's gonna struggle to be a middle of the pack Pac 12 team though.

I am pretty happy so far. I think they are getting solid roleplayers across the board to upgrade the overall talent, but I would really like to see them get 1 or 2 splash recruits. Doesn't have to be a 5 star, but somebody to be the face of the class.

Shane Dillon is the face of the class... even if we land Yuri and Daysean imo.

Expect a 4* not on your list before NLI day...

Snow: I think your expectations are unrealistic short-term. We aren't going to be in on a bunch of 4 and 5 stars until we have won a few more games. Embree is a "system" guy so he will recruit players that are or can be developed for specific needs in the system. The recruiting class this year will fill a lot of those needs. You have to frame the house before you can put the granite in the kitchen.

Agreed. I'm confused as to why you think I am being a little over the top. I did say TWO four stars were "good". Double that and I think this is a great recruiting job. Is that unreasonable? Especially since I don't consider even that level to be CU's historical average level of recruiting?

Well look on the bright side. We are THE highest rated class with out a 4*. and we have the 3rd most 3*'s in the nation.

Also, the dividing line between 3 star and 4 star is rather murky. A number of the 3 stars we have are on the cusp. For instance, Payne is virtually a 4 star, according to the latest of 247. Whatever initial difference there is (and I'm not sure there is) between he and Wes Brown (for instance) might very well be eclipsed during the next year of practice and S&T.

We have some tremendous athletes on our list. And in many positions, we have little margin for error. The coaches know that, as we can tell from who they are recruiting and how intensely. In fact, unlike any time in at least 10 years, there are very few players on our list who seem unlikely to make a major contribution. (I'm not shedding any tears over Manea, though I wish him the best.)

considering that Embree and EB were hired for their recruiting: meh

We'll see how it ends up. I like that we are recruiting the DL hard though.

Allow me to be captain obvious for a moment: a lot depends on what happens between now and signing day. If we pick up players like Cope-Fitzpatrick, McNamara, W Brown, Crawley, Wright, Rippy, Hooker and Powell everyone will be thrilled and it will be a very good class (at least on paper). If the remaining commits end up being below the radar types or if, heaven forbid, we lose some of the current commits, I fully expect several threads on here that will be pure rants.

#31 on Scout and #42 on Rivals now. We'll continue to drop unless we bring some of these 4*. Without them we wont even be #50 on Rivals.
