Not a whole lot out there on Thomas, but hat tip to Adam on this one. He's reporting that Thomas will be visiting on 9/8 along with Jabari Bird. He apparently really impressed the staff in July. K-State is also reportedly pretty interested in him.

Still slotted to visit 9/8. Looks like Oklahoma is in the picture as well, visiting Norman in late September.

From Adam - visiting Oklahoma 9/21.

Thomas helped lead Pleasant Grove to a 29-2 record and a 3A Region II District 15 championship as a junior. This coming season, he expects to play primarily at small forward, the position he projects at for college.

"I can cause big time mismatches," Thomas said. "If they put a small kid on me, I can go to the block and dominate. If it is a bigger kid on me, he has to come out and guard me."

Looks like Tad is continuing the Dre/XJ position of a 3/4 hybrid.

Not really outstanding numbers, right?

you never know. These were the numbers dre had his senior year:

PPG: 8.3
APG: 2.3
RPG: 7.7
SPG: 1.8
BPG: 0.3

If Tad thinks this kid can play, then I am going to agree with him.

Reminder that he's visiting this weekend. So if he walks by with Tad for Sackygate....

I'm still having a hard time finding a lot of stuff on him. It doesn't help that there was a Dustin Thomas who played at Villanova and there's a Dustin Thomas who plays football. But TexasHoops.com does have him as the #9 player in the state of TX in 2013 and had this to say:

Six-foot-8 Pleasant Grove's Dustin Thomas has shown that his size causes mismatches. The face-up four man has a soft touch from the perimeter and creates plenty of space inside the paint.

Don't feel bad Goose, NO ONE has much info on the kid. From the bits and pieces I've read though, he sounds like a nice complimentary piece who would add some size and versatility. Probably more Austin Dufault than Scott/Gordon though. Not that that's a bad thing.

If we can have an Austin Dufault type player coming off of the bench for three to four years, we're doing something right.

Agreed 100%. In fact, I'd love to have him back this year. I think he'd be really good with this group, playing a more natural position.

Anyway, this is just one more sign of where the program is now. A couple of years ago, a sleeper with an Oklahoma offer (I can't remember where I read it, but I'm pretty sure he got the offer) would've been the highlight of our class. Now, he's a virtual afterthought at this point. For some reason, I've got a good feeling about this one though.

You only get one basketball on the floor at one time. While it would be nice to have a bunch of 30ppg scorers out on the floor there is a lot more to the game than the statistics show. Tad's teams have shown that he can effectively use a group of guys with different skills and strengths.

To have a guy who is big enough to compete effectively in the pain and still mobile enough to not slow you down is a positive. If the guy has the toughness to play defense and do the complimentary things then the whole team is better. My feeling is that Tad sees this guy as a guy who fits well in what he wants to do and as a guy who can make other players on the floor with him better.

My good friend's at the game right now, standing next to Dustin. Dustin is absolutely in love with Boulder. My friend said he can't get enough of it.

Oklahoma visit scheduled for the 21st. I really hope he doesn't make it there. Thomas would be a great fit at CU. He'd give us another 3/4 combo glue guy. We'll need that with Dre leaving early.

So, if Thomas commits that makes two ... Given his character and ethics in dealing with players, that would indicate Boyle feels assure of at least one underclass attrition after this year. I suppose that could be Andre to the pros, but I think that it might also be Shane because he is a forth year junior and from what I hear, a good student who might be on track to graduate. Does anyone out there have a notion about this being a realistic possibility? If it is correct, and Andre goes in the draft, then we might have one more recruit in the Spring.

There should be at least one scholarship available due to players transferring. I like the work ethic of this kid and we know Tad has an eye for talent.

This would be a nice 3/4 addition. Seems like a great kid. Hope Tad gets a chance to mold him

I really like this one. He seems to fit what CTB's doing really well. It'll be nice to have a little more size at the Forward positions too.

I'd be real happy with this commit, as we could use some depth at the 4/3.

I do think that this should probably be it for our recruiting class though, because if we add anyone else it likely cuts into our 2014 class. Maybe there's an exception that's worth it, but would really like 3 commits available for 2014

After looking at the modest point and rebound totals, I was a little worried about getting a 6'8 player that can't play. There is some guard on his team that takes the majority of shots , so maybe Thomas isn't getting the ball enough.

This may be old news, but D. Thomas vaulted up to the Top 10 in Texas on Rivals. My recruiting book tells me that most guys who are rated Top 10 in Texas are pretty darn good basketball players. Roberson was hardly acknowledged in Texas and yet he's a star, proving Texas is still a hotbed bball of talent. I wish I could find some video on Thomas.

Doesn't look like Tad is playing around. These guys are recruiting their butts off and I tip my hat to them. Wow, who would've imagined the CU program turning the corner in 2 years! Colorado joining the Pac-12 was such a great move for the program and Tad is still going into Texas to take their best. LOL:rofl: Roll Taddy!

Tad Boyle and the #CUBuffs just received a verbal commitment from 6-8 power forward Dustin Thomas for the 2013 recruiting class.
Well, we got him. Now, someone find me some video! Welcome to the Buffs Dustin! :woot: :gobuffs:

not 100% confirmed that video is our Dustin Thomas yet:
