I wonder how long OSU's Marcus Smart will get suspended

At the end of tonight's loss at Texas Tech, chronic flopper Marcus Smart committed a foul at the rim on a fast break and his momentum carried him into the crowd.

As he was getting up, he didn't like something some older guy (looked in his 50s) said. Smart pushed him with both hands as he mouthed back to him.

Not only did he cost his team (which is imploding), but I think he just cost himself a lot of money as NBA GMs shy away.

Coming up, OSU is at Texas (Feb 11), vs Oklahoma (Feb 15) and at Baylor (Feb 17).

Will Travis Ford suspend Smart with 2 of the biggest rivalry games coming up next?

Rep to the first person to post a video clip.

Recruiting bad apples, no matter how talented, always catches up with you sooner or later. It's not even about this particular incident, just Okie Lite and Baylor collapsing in general.

I'll be in the minority. Really feel for him, in that he would have been a Top 5 pick and hurt his reputation big time with this incident. We don't know what was said to him; it might have been really bad. At the same time, you have to be smarter then that (easier said then done in the heat of the moment). The Big XII should suspend him 5 games or so as they have to be concerned with fan safety. I'd still be more concerned with his outside shot and other factors then his hotheadedness recently

It's the way basketball is though. Players are really close to the fans so this kind of interaction can happen and lead to a lot of bad press. Just a total meltdown by Oklahoma State

Have a hard time giving people who are presumably in their 50s a free pass for saying what they like to a guy in his early 20s and getting away with it.

Just something to consider before everybody gangs up on a college senior.

We'll be fortunate for Okie Lite to stay top 50 (already down to 34). When adversity hits a team like that, they crumble.

This was the dude he pushed

This isn't gonna end well for Tech, either. Turns out the guy has a history of harassing players and the Tech AD did a feature on their "#1" fan a few years ago.

Fan probably said something inappropriate.

Smart cannot react by pushing him. That's pretty much rule #1 for a player. It's not defending yourself, it's escalating the situation. If he'd just said something back, I wouldn't have cared. I don't think too many people would.

Not sure who is giving Orr a "free pass" here. The focus is usually on the court, not the stands. No matter what Orr said, Marcus Smart is going to be the focus. Orr should likely be banned from future Texas Tech sporting events but that doesn't mean Marcus Smart was in the right because something offensive was said. Let's not forget Marcus Smart is also a legal adult and more importantly, an NBA prospect in this case, he absolutely can't lose his cool. You think this kind of situation isn't going to come up in the pros?

I was expecting from the beginning of your statement for you to be a lot more lenient. I don't really even disagree with what you're saying so much. Hopefully it's a learning experience for him and he can redeem himself.

Like you said, you got to keep your emotions in check in the heat of the moment but that's easier said than done. I'm sure his coaches have talked about how in various Big 12 environments, vulgar things will be said but you absolutely can't let that get to you.

It doesn't matter what the man said (and if you look he's not screaming and cursing), no one had a right to assault hm

He you ever been to a sport's event? Fans are supposed to yell and support their team and they don't need a "free pass"t do so

Truly one of the dumbmest posts ever

It is worth noting what the guy said to him. Getting court side seats doesn't buy you the right to be an asshole.

That said, Smart or any player needs to be better than that.

Yea, what he said to Smart is a huge factor. Was it racial, or was it something completely innocent?. Chances are it wasn't the latter. Also, this might not be just on the fan, there could be some accountability for TT here if the fan is a representative of the university.

But regardless of what was said, Smart certainly can't act that way and certainly has no excuse for what he did.

Mr. Orr (obviously) denies he said anything vulgar or used the "N-word" but he admitted he said something he shouldn't have.

I'm on my iPhone but if you check Doug Gottlieb's twitter, he has comments from Orr.

Glass houses ....... beware of them.

Unconfirmed, but several media outlets report that fan may have said, "Go back to Africa" to Marcus Smart. Again, unconfirmed, so take it with a grain of salt.

This could have so many ramifications going forward....could cost Travis Ford his job if he comes off as not being strong enough to handle this situation on top of the losing streak and could cost Smart some money and draft position (although I think he will still be a lottery pick). Don't really care what was said...you never go into the stands like that...no matter how bad you want to clock some idiot fan.

Fans are supposed to yell and support their team, not verbally assault the opposing team.
