Official 2016 Coaching Carousel Thread - How safe is Kevin Sumlin´s job?

and who does LSU think they can land as an improvement?
They'll get a slam dunk. That's a better gig than USC. Who that is.....I don't know. Tom Herman? That's a hard sell to that fan base. Maybe an NFL guy.....

Let me make one more point here......Rick George has to call the hat and see if he'd be interested in this gig. Miles will be picky, and I think this may work....one, hes a God if he puts up the kind of numbers here that he has at LSU......two, hes working for a guy I'd bet he has a relationship with. It's not ideal, and MM has a fat buyout.....and it wouldn't look good, but this is a business. George isn't doing his job if he doesn't make this phone call.....and it shouldn't do anything to damage his relationship with MacIntyre-who knows he is on the hot seat going into 2016

I keep thinking who USC should go after and a name that I thinj fits perfectly is David shaw if they could somehow pull it off. Pro style offense with a big emphasis on a power run game would be perfect for them.

I'm starting to think that Clay Helton gets that job....not hearing much chatter like with the east coast jobs, and they need stability

Do you really think the boosters would let that happen?

I don't. USC is talking to agents and finding out the interest level of some name hires. I think the guy they drool over is Jeff Fisher, just as Michigan folks did over Jim Harbaugh. And maybe the timing is right this year, just as it was for Michigan last year.

Pat Haden is the same guy who hired seven win sark two years ago, and their boosters were A-OK with that.....it'll be interesting to see what happens with Helton. Might make sense for a school who would be looking for a new oc

Difference here is that Harbaugh is a proven winner. Fisher is a proven loser.

A hilarious turn of events would be LSU firing Miles, Saban moving on after winning another NC this year, 'Bama hires Miles and goes on to kick the sh*t out of LSU for the next ten years.

College football is crazy.

Gundy would be a good hire at LSU I just don't know if he puts them over the top like they are looking to do. That's why I would take a risk and go after Herman. If LSU can somehow get their offense going they are going to be unbeatable.

I think folks over-rate LSU. They're not a traditional power and are a middle-of-the-pack SEC West program. Saban got them to a level far above their norm and Miles somewhat maintained it. But there's not a lot of difference between LSU and Ole Miss.

This is a pretty fun read (Except for the part where RG leaves CU) suggesting 41 new hires in D1 college football.

Rick George vacates his post as Colorado’s AD to return to his alma mater. His first act of business is to hire the antithesis of Tim Beckman. George works quickly, plucking Dino Babers away from Bowling Green.

Rick George said Mike MacIntyre would be back in 2016. Rick George isn’t here anymore. The Buffs’ new AD moves in a different direction and hires Oregon offensive coordinator Scott Frost.

I guess I see that Saban woke up a sleeping giant. LSU has great instate talent, great access to Houston and Dallas, and a very passionate fanbase. You could say similar things about Florida before Spurrier got there couldn't you?

LSU fan is as unreasonable as they come. Some of my relatives live in LA and are Tigers. They are lucky to have Miles, and yes, they have a ridiculous talent base in LA and east Texas. It is about as good as anybody's and if you can't win 7-8 games a year there, you should be fired. Thing is, LM has won a lot more there, but LSU fan is fickle, they may think they can hire the next Bear Bryant on a whim, my money is the fact they cannot.

I doubt SC keeps their interim. They will look for a splash, they are in L.A. after all.

I wonder how Gundy would do without Uncle Boone to grant his every wish.

But he's a man, he's now well past 40.

I think he'd do well at LSU. He wouldn't miss T. Boone's money because they have other boosters who will put up whatever is needed plus some.

It may actually be good timing for him. Georgia is likely going to have a new coach, Foodcart isn't setting the world on fire at Tennessee, Sparkles looks to have UF rising again but it's just one year, USC(SEC version) is changing coaches, most importantly there are signs that Saban may be reaching the end of his time at Bama if not this year in the next couple. If Gundy wanted to pick a time to try to win it all at LSU this may be as good a time as any.

Gundy knows offense.

Florida is on a whole other level due to the in-state talent and population (#1 in the nation).

I'm not saying that LSU isn't in a great spot for recruiting. It is. Especially since it's the only P5 in the state of Louisiana. But it's a pretty level playing field in the SEC West. In the SEC East, Florida and Georgia are in clearly dominant positions.

Agreed.

Ditching a coach because "you can do better" often does not work as one would hope. Its been an utter disaster for us, and has been problematic even for elite blue bloods like Texas, Michigan, and Nebraska, though Michigan looks like they are finally on the mend. Hell, how many coaches did Notre Dame blow through before they got Kelly?

I think the number your looking for is Four. Somewhere it was written that that hire is the one where the next great leader comes along.

So we should fire MikMac yesterday?

Ill say that if the next guy ISNT the right guy I dont think I have it in me to keep going.

Also, we have a couple of leftover choices from between Mac and Barnett (2 to be exact) so it might be 6 for us.

Miami supposedly zeroed in on Charlie Strong as next HC, but he has the support of the UT Pres. and Interim AD, so, that one will be interesting to watch.
