Official 2016 Coaching Carousel Thread - How safe is Kevin Sumlin´s job?

Media down here is buzzing that Sumlin might be gone now. They're looking into how much it would cost to buy him out.

Gonna be tough to swing financially, even with their money. Being butthurt at some transfers is still a tough justification for all the buyout money that will be involved.

Isn't a&m top five in endowment in the country?

I would bet on that being true at least among public unis. It's still ticky tack unless they can find other serious institutional things that warrant his dismissal. If it were for performance he would've been gone after the LSU game. The timing of these rumors just looks like butthurt.

aggy is an okay job. They would have trouble finding an upgrade at this juncture.

An accurate statement.

That doesn't mean that they believe it this time though. Seems like a lot of schools tend to think they are more appealing than they turn out to be. (With a glance ENE from Boulder among others.)

It's official: Sitake to BYU. Will be interesting to see how he builds that staff. Some of his guys are at Utah and Oregon State.

He will own the "practicing" LDS Polynesian kids in terms of recruiting. He will get a bunch that in the past have been on the fence and looked closely at Utah (and even Oregon State).

BYU still needs to find a conferences. Certainly this splits some of the Polys away from Utah. Gary Anderson will also push hard in that space. Bronco often seems a bit weird in the Media. Sitake doesn't. In that regard I think it's a step up for BYU.

They aren't likely to find a new conference at the level they think they should be (P5) until the church elders receive two new revelations: 1. it's ok to play games and/or travel on Sunday and 2. the school should actually support that whole academic freedom thing.

The second one hurts more than many people realize. If the school leadership really saw the light and started supporting academic freedom in a meaningful way, I think they'd find a conference willing to negotiate on the Sunday stuff. But right now, there's no group of university presidents that are willing to go to their faculty and say "yes, we're formally aligned with and sharing money with a school that formally and informally censors their scholars."

BYU has a lot of "uniqueness" to its culture, both academic and athletic. They also behaved as if they were Texas in the MWC, and years ago negotiated with BCS conferences for inclusion with a similar attitude. I think they've been humbled. But Sunday play, the academic climate, the lack of meaningful research at the institution and the distant geography relative to B12, B10 and ACC teams certainly will make university presidents look twice before offering inclusion for BYU.

They pack stadiums with their members and drive TV numbers. From a business side they make a lot more sense than most. I believe they won't be part of the pac 12, but certainly could fit in the big 12. Their fan base desperately wants in.

Even sheep fans are smart enough to know Bobo has not the resume for anything resembling a move up at this point.
