Tad Boyle working the grad transfer market

One possibility, though, is that they're projecting Schwartz at the 2. It's not a totally crazy idea with Tad's lineups.

Fun fact: Tad has never had a 6'6 player listed as a forward. Schwartz's best skill is scoring. That's undeniable. He's a no-brainer 2 guard.

Schwartz will be playing a lot of SG, meaning Tad better work on his zone principles this summer.

Agreed that Schwartz is a 2, although I personally don't differentiate a ton between 2/3. Have you seen Schwartz play in person? You seem to think he won't be good at man by saying zone, and feel like it's hard to make that determination based on highlights, which is all I've seen. (earnest question, not trying to be a smart ass).

I've watched him between 10-15 times, mostly between frosh and junior years. What I mean is this:

PG: Collier/Nikolic/Brown
SG: Schwartz/Brown/Wright
SF: King/Wright/Schwartz
PF: Bey/Battey/Siewart
C: Miller/Walton

Out of that group and the possible rotations...I don't see more than one good man to man defender in any line up, depending on how Wright comes along and if Collier's late season progression on that end comes through again. That's not a roster full of defenders that I'd bet on being able to play the way Boyle wants them to on that end.

He had to see that the zone gelling and getting a lot of turnovers was what drove the turnaround in Pac-12 play last year, right?

Would love to see next year's team really commit to Tad's run and jump defense. He times it really, really well in game and with a group of so much length and youth, this could be a great way to get them to buy into defensive principles. Plus, if you're getting beat, it's quick, meaning you're out and running the other way.

Only thing with a "run and jump" defense that I don't like and runs counter to Tad's philosophies is that it can put you in really bad rebounding position. Maybe not such a big issue in 2017-18 with guys like Namon, King and Nikolic projected to rebound so well from the 1-2-3? But, man, I love how it changes pace, forces quick shots and turnovers, and gets into the heads of opposing players.

Forgive my ignorance but what exactly does that mean?

Also, you guys have convinced me. I think he is targeting a big with that last scholarship spot. However, he could also be trying to grab McKinley Wright, as he has a lot of CU activity right now. If we're choosing between Odingo and Wright, there's no wrong answer. Or maybe he's still looking at Darrington or a grad transfer.

Personally, I'd prefer Wright or Darrington, but you can't go wrong with any of those three. All are damn good recruits.

MiKyle McIntosh, a 6'8", 240 lb. forward, is leaving Illinois St. Not just a filler guy. He averaged 14/7 on a 28 win team that had two other high scoring Seniiors. Whoever gets MiKyle is getting a plug'n play stud.

Oregon

BTW, the Redbirds other starting forward, Deonte Hawkins, has also become a grad transfer. He was thought to be headed to Europe to play pro ball. Also 6'8" and 240 pounds, Hawkins was the Redbirds leading scorer and rebounder. He's heard from B.C., Michigan, Ohio St., blah blah blah. A bunch of others.

WTF
