Official 2017 Coaching Carousel Thread - Zona hires Sumlin

Oregon has a huge class - 32 kids - when Taggert leaves ( vegas has it at -250 - for non gamblers, you have to wager 250 to win 100), at least some of those guys will become available. I hope the staff has an idea of who to target.

Why do you say auburn is a much better job? I definitely think it is better but Arkansas has a lot of positives too.

Every 5th or 6th year, Auburn beats Alabama.

Anyway, good move by Arkansas to disengage with Malzahn. No point in being used to negotiate a better deal for him.

So hard to keep track, but didn't Feldman write the book with Leach? If so, not sure if it means this is a propaganda piece with maybe Leach as the source or if Feldman has something real on this one.

Leach is not that type of guy. For all of his eccentricities, he is not that devious. And Feldman is not Clay Travis and would not be someones tool for propaganda. I take it that Feldman has something real.

To piggyback... during Saban’s run the last 11 regular seasons, Auburn has four wins against HCNS’s Bama. That’s the most wins of any school in the SEC against Alabama during the Saban era. In second, LSU have three wins from Les Miles coached teams.

10-10 in the past 20 years. Maybe Bama wins the next 30 to 40 games and proves you right.

Coaches who are definitely available.

Sumlin - will get some interest. I still think he would fit at ASU.
McElwain - this is a strange one. He may be a little toxic after the stunt he pulled at Florida. Maybe will be a studio host for a year.
Graham - Maybe gets a shot somewhere. Really not that bad of a coach.
Les Miles - seems to be throwing his hat out there for every opening. Someone will bite, maybe Arkansas.
Beliema - I think he will have to go lower level or become an assistant. Record with the Hogs was not good. Of course $12 Million will help soothe his time.
Butch Jones - Definitely will have to be an assistant or lower level coach for awhile.
Mike Riley - Probably no takers for him. Studio host.
Jim Mora - not in demand, IMO.
Gary Anderson - probably has to decide if he wants to continue coaching. Another weird situation.

In other related news - Bobby Hauck is back at Montana.

Does Butch Jones join Brian Kelly’s staff and try an regain his magical formula?

taggert wants $7.5 mil a year and levitt comes with at $2mil per and another $1.5 mil for oc and around $500k average for other asst coaches

I can live with Leavitt going to the SEC.
yes i agree!....but this is like an arms race during the cold war... build facilities someone builds bigger and better ones.... pay $5 mil for hc someone pays $7.5 mil where does this crap end?.... i love college football but its getting way out of hand

Where it's getting way out of hand is that colleges are losing any argument they had that they can't afford to pay a large stipend to scholarship athletes and set up an annuity for them for after they graduate.

Similar to how Goodell was aghast at the suggestion that his compensation should be performance based, but he wants to preach to the NFLPA that the non-guaranteed contracts creates a meritocracy that makes the league stronger.

Lots of bull**** going on in the big money business of sports.

If Taggart takes the FSU job, don't you think Frost will consider the UO job? IMHO, UO is the better job when it comes to them and Nebraska. Getting fired after 9 win seasons, fanbase needing you to succeed to be able to carry on with their lives, and Texas recruiting pipeline isn't what it used to be.

Talking heads on sports radio in Portland say that Oregon has no shot at Frost.

If FSU offers, I don’t see how Oregon keeps Taggart. Regardless of how much money they can come up with, they can’t move Eugene to Florida.

I really hope UCF promotes Troy Walters and he doesn't have to go to that hellhole in Nebraska. I feel like it says everything that he had a nice back and forth with Shay when Shay tweeted thanks to CU, while a certain two Oregon coaches were silent when Isaiah announced.

A handful of universities have the big bucks to make these deals. That’s hardly an argument that all schools can afford to pay players.

I believe Leavitt will go with Taggart to FSU. That could be one heck of a coaching staff for the Seminoles.
