Buffs sign Aussie kicker! James Stefanou

Univ. Of Houston's punter is 27 and also from Australia in the same kicking group. I don't think age is a big deal. Can he kick with accuracy and distance? That is the question I want answered. If yes, we may have a steal here.

I like his style.

We really need someone to come in here and win the Groza award, so that we can establish Boulder as the place to be if you want to showcase your leg for the pros. I'm all for going the mercenary route for that.

No, but one Australian year is like .75 American years. So he's really only 20 years old.

1.25 American years...they drink much harder in Australia...he's equivalent of a 37 year old American kicker. He's got 10 more years of kicking ahead of him says George Blanda and Morton Anderson.

He and the coaches can go have a beer after the game. Maybe he and Baer can share an apartment.

I'm excited that we didn't just add another entitled Millennial to the team! This guy will bring a work ethic and take no prisoners attitude that those coddled kids just can't replicate. What do you guys think? Strong opinions and hot takes appreciated!

Here's my opinion: I personally don't attack an entire generation with broad statements and I sure as hell don't attack Buffs. Seriously, implying someone does or doesn't have a worth ethic because of his/her age? That someone is coddled and entitled? B.S.
On the other hand, I think this is an interesting choice for kicker. Love that the "five years to play four" doesn't count if you haven't been to college, so let's hope professional sports has created a cool, calm, tough placekicker for the next few years.

It was a joke related to another thread, not a serious opinion.

Stupid question, but does a 30 year old have to complete three years of college before entering the draft?

Hope he returns for at least one more season but understandable if he goes to the NFL.

Maybe if he was 20 years old. His clock is ticking.
At this point, I don't think he's anything but an UDFA and camp leg, who would seriously have to dominate in order to even make an NFL team. If he has another good season, he could put himself in position to be drafted and actually earn some money. My opinion, of course.

I don't think anyone is looking to draft a 32 year old kicker. I would get to camp, get on a roster, and start making money in order to maximize career earnings.

Since 2015 there have been 4 kickers drafted.

There is zero chance of being drafted for the reasons Gary outlined above.

There's a finite but probably somewhat small chance of hooking onto a team and having it be lucrative.
My guidance would be to get your free degree man.

This.

He needs to go at least one season, and preferably two, with 0 misses (or blocks that are his fault for the kick being low) at <40 yards, and he'll punch his ticket.

The only kickers that get drafted are automatic <40. Long kicks are nice, but guaranteed points in the red zone are what gets kickers paid.
