In this case, it seems like Montez fits Roper's description of a game manager. So it is not just consistency issues. He has had three great games (one of which was Northern Colorado) and a whole lot of mediocre play.

IOW, I am not sure Woelk is even sure what he is trying to argue.

But what you're ignoring is it's more common than not for QB's to be more like game managers in their first 15 starts than it is for them to be taking over games. That jump typically happens in year 2. You have been provided with plenty of examples.

It's typically only the true next level talents that put up better numbers during their first 15 starts.

Huh? Because he's only thrown for 27 TDs through 15 starts? I feel like Montez is anything but a game manager. We've seen what he's physically capable of doing as a playmaker, and we've seen how bad he can be as well. Consistency and becoming more "football aware" are by far his biggest issues that he needs to work on.

Rather than make abbreviated but declarative statements about things, help us out here! Was this entire teasing out simply to say Montez may not be among the truly elite QBs in college football?

I doubt you'll get much of an argument there. I hope he makes a nice jump and ends up as one of the top 4 in the conference.

But if you actually look back over his starts, he is actually pretty consistent. Three great games and one awful game with the rest being very similar. Consistency is not the issue.
 
Montez 27 TD passes in 15 career games...don't forget those dropped TD passes at UCLA otherwise he would be pretty much on par with those QBs.

I think 24 TD passes should be the minimum that Montez gets for this upcoming season.

Fair enough, and I think CU's record over his starts pretty much tell the story of how good/mediocre he's been. As Gary said, you're not getting an argument from me or anyone else that Montez is a Heisman caliber QB, but with only one full season of starts under his belt, I think we should withhold judgement until we see if Roper and another offseason is able to advance his game. This year is a tipping point for this program in a lot of different ways.

Was Montez on the D-Line last year?
 
Well, hopefully, working with a qb coach has helped the game slow down for him some. Don't try to go "Joe Kane" and win the damn Heisman on every throw. Just execute the offense, use what God gave ya.
 
When does an updated depth chart come out? Feels like we're about due to find out who is winning the position battles.
