I like the MT hire, just not very enthused about most of the staff. I love Chev, fine with keeping Hagan and Els, and the OL coach seems like a very good hire. DL coach also not bad. I was hoping for home run hires for the Coordinator rolls, and I don’t think we got that, but time will tell. And frankly, I would have been happier keeping Ambrose and Shannon Brown in the secondary. I just don’t see a lot of upgrades between current staff and previous. I guess OC and OL are upgrades on paper, DL and the coaches retained are probably about even, and DC and DB seem like downgrades, again on paper.

There is not even a question the OC and OL coaches are upgrades.

Well replacing Gary Bernardi should be a ridiculously easy upgrade at TE, so we're assured of another step up. (talk about low bars)

We are talking about incremental improvements over the last staff correct? IMO they've done that in all cases so far with the exceptions of the retentions(blah).

For all of the DJ Eliot/KwanDrake lovers out there you do realize that we had no viable replacements coming in for the loss of Javier Edwards and Mulmba/Franke. Same old problem for our undersized and threadbare depth dline. DJ was going to roll with Tuiloma and a recovering Sami at NT next year. Certainly the jury is out for Summers/Brumbaugh until we see how Jordan, Doss, Williams and hopefully Poialli perform next season but damn I'm impressed with getting those RECRUITS in here. They also brought 4* Ham in late. Definite upgrade here in terms of recruiting.

I think we'll probably still be rolling with Tuiloma and Sami FWIW. Definitely added depth at NT though.

I don't question the DC or DL hires (or the OC & OL), I think that they are clear upgrades. Hagan, yes I question.

DB not really. ShaDon Brown was an east coast guy and is equivalent to the new guy from GA. Ambrose may have been an upgrade over Tillman but that's subjective and MT's preference.

Then your set

Not a coaching move, but looks like Geoff Martzen is now director of player personnel. He previously had that same role at UCLA this past year and CSU before that.
What does a director of player personal do? Are they in charge of the kids off the field?

Still hope we take a run at Vic So'oto (UVA DL coach). BYU guy, with wife with Provo ties (but hails from Hawaii). They met when she was Mendenhall's Exec Assistant at BYU.

He's a San Diego County kid and they made their home in Carlsbad during his playing career.

He's loyal to Bronco Mendenhall it seems, but he's young, dynamic, definite up and comer in recruiting, and played OLB. He could coach that position and "pass rush" random title perhaps, or Defensive recruiting coordinator, or whatever. Give him a raise and get him closer to Provo!

We all want that. But you forget...we can’t have nice things.

@BuffSurveyor would be an upgrade at TE coach over Bernardi. That's not saying much.

I'm just bored waiting for the Clemson game to start, so I was looking through some of Coach Tucker's follows. He started following Chad Scott, UNC's former TE coach (coached at Texas Tech after a long NFL run, young) and Kentucky's OLB coach (let's not go back to that well). These are reaches, but I'm just looking for any clues

Long time lurker - thought I’d get off the bench and join in the conversations. Cheers to all and Happy New Year. I’m a two time CU grad - ‘88 and ’93.

As this is my first post I’m not allowed to add a link but I saw a tweet from Mike Moschetti (retweeted by Chev) that says:

“Let’s go @CoachChev6 let’s get the BEST players in Southern California to become Buffs”

A couple replies to the tweet seemed to suggest Mike has joined the staff - but I haven’t seen any discussion on this board or any of the usual places.

I’m trying to interpret... any opinions?
