Chev followed real quick.

But guessing he goes to Miami with Bolden (and Brevin Jordan) there now.

I only just started following recruiting last year. Didn’t someone say in some thread that we actually had a decent shot at him for a while?

And didn't he post some Twitter-smack about Fields coming to OSU when he entered the portal? Now he's transferring? Do I have this right?

Yes. Blue Chip QBs want to be in a situation where they know they are going to be the man at some point. Martell was on track for that until Fields decided to transfer, especially since Fields is likely going to be eligible immediately.

Kinda. His HS teammate, 4* CB Alex Perry, has family here and was all about the Buffs on twitter - he was cheering for us in his tweets. Perry is close with 4* S Bubba Bolden and wanted Bolden to come with him here and Bolden sort of considered it. 4* TE Brevin Jordan was also in on some of the early recruiting waves.

Their excitement, along with Chev’s fresh recruiting strategy, really seemed to have an effect on Martell and I think we might have been on the shortlist for a potential visit (he included us in his top 5). Unfortunately, Martell visited Ohio State early and there was (probably mutual) pressure to commit ASAP and he did. I believe it was eventually reported that Perry didn’t really fit MM’s plan for corner (he’s a tad short) and I think we quit pursuing him when it became clear how much of a long shot Bolden was. Perry went to ASU where his brother is and we missed out on all of them lol.

Our master plan may come together!

If he wants a clear shot at immediate playing time- he will be hard pressed to find a better option. We don't have highly touted back-ups like the other options. Hopefully Chev and Johnson can sell the idea of "you'll be the guy in 2020." This would be one hell of an accelerant for the program.

I would think CU would be a good option for him. A lot closer to home, anyway. I know he considered CU during his original recruitment. Of all the unicorn QB transfers, he would be the most likely to end up here.

Kid didn't even want to compete with Fields

Why would he? It’s a coin flip whether he’d be able to beat out the #2 overall prospect in the country. Martell is still a blue chip kid himself who wants to play.
If he truly is a blue chip caliber player, then he stays and competes through spring ball. If he loses the competition, then sure look for the transfer. He has to sit a year anyway, so why would it be an issue for him to transfer over the summer rather than now? I am sorry, but that doesn't sound at all like a blue chip to me.

Perhaps he is looking for the least resistance to the NFL. You can’t blame a kid for looking out for his future.
