Official Spring Practices Thread

Disappointing about the closed practices, but not entirely unexpected, either.

It'd be nice to get an answer at RB. Will the new offense be good for Bisharat? He's a senior so the light might finally turn on for him.

As for the OL, I'm guessing we might have to wait until summer when Halbright comes in to see how the OL functions.

A RB either has it or does not, waiting for the light to come on as a senior seems like a bit of a waste of time.

Agree on the waste of time part but it'd be great if Bisharat gets his stuff together this spring.

I, personally, love the Johnson interviews with the center where he talks about soft hands.
During the AZ State postgame in 2016, when Alex mentioned that it was 'nice because Sefo has soft hands', it was a hilarious/ nice touch at the end too.
:)

Unfortunately, we will be in a world of hurt if the RMS comes around and BB is the one taking all the 1st team reps.

so far, i like MT's approach and public comments. unlike some of our prior hires, he is starting off on the right foot---

instead of "burned down" we get "win now."

instead of "not enough talent" we get "everyone gets a clean slate and a chance to compete."

no bull **** excuses. no bull **** zen predictions. just no-nonsense, install the program, build the culture, do your jobs.

and, i love to hear him complement the guys, saying they are buying in and working hard and do the extra things to get better. that's how you do it.

this guy knows himself some football coaching.

Every new coach speaks better than the last bum.

We will love Mel if he wins. His current sayings will be despised if he doesn't.

Let's not make this the knob slob board that Maximus made 247. I'm pretty sure any new HC would say we got to get bigger and tougher up front. That was obvious to any 6th grader.

"He gets it"! Jesus, he better

To be fair, our last coach literally did not seem to get that

Assuming a new hire will understand how to do the job is asking a lot right now.

MM: choir boy who never emphasized recruiting and who never adjusted to the speed and size of the p5. So he didn’t exactly get it. Oh and constantly played the look how horrible we were so grade me on a curve card.

JE: Understood the importance of recruiting. Lost the team before he ever coached a down by basically saying how bad they all were. Played his guys first after that. Couldn’t organize or run a p5 program. So he didn’t get it either. And played the burned down card too.

Hawkins: do we really have to there? Did he get it?

Please.

Embree sounded great to most until his team played another team. There was a lot of first spring hype.

MM actually ran a professional operation, which was such a contrast, we were also excited. Hell, people were still buying his words when we were 5-0.

Mel hasn't lost a game yet, so it's awesome. And don't get me being "a downer", as I'm optimistic as ever. But so far, it's mostly coach speaks.

It's all in the archives. They were all "just what we needed" in March of their first year, including Hawkins.

If you read my post above I said he’s done well so far. I’ve hardly proclaimed him the savior. I think you have trust issues.

I agree with what you’re saying but there are major differences in the last three head coaching hires and the Mel Tucker. As much as I hate to perpetuate the SEC angle, having coached under Saban and Kirby Smart at the highest levels possible gives MT a level of credibility when he says things that goes beyond general coach speak of MM, JE, or DH.

I agree that is likely, just want to see it. Show me! So much slobbering on 247, has my gag reflex amped up.

I think we will know a lot more about Tucker come December. Barring a 10-win season, there will be question marks coming out of the season and in recruiting. You only get so many opportunities to fix mistakes as a HC.

But he does seem to have a good idea of how he wants the team to play and where he wants to emphasize recruiting at least.

Maximus? Hell yes.

Per https://www.denverpost.com/2019/03/...tell-colorado-football-transfer-quarterbacks/ , sounds like a spring game is a want but not a sure thing at this point.

"...
Spring game returns? Tucker said the No. 1 goal for spring ball is establishing a new “culture” with the Buffs. Part of that sea change, he hopes, would include an actual, honest-to-goodness spring game on April 27 to cap things off.

“I would like to get a game going,” Tucker said Monday. “I’ll have to see how these guys operate and who the leaders are.”
