Go get back to us if you’re ever in the situation he was in where all you need to do is say yes. It’s awfully easy to speak in hypotheticals. Things are different when you actually have those options in front of you and just need to say the word.
He sold his soul. I can guarantee you I would not have taken the money. And word is RG tried offering a significant raise and Tucker, via his agent, told RG to go **** himself.

Its not all about the money, its his radio station tour saying how committed is was to CU, the same day he took the money. He was a liar and full of ****. While he was with boosters he was negotiating he way out. That is bull**** and shady as ****. Anyone that thinks that is ok is ****ed and has no morals at all.
I understand it's a ton of dough. But I still think he made a huge mistake on the way he handled it. If I was in his shoes (and I say this with all candor), I would have entertained the original offer. Once I said no and publicly declared to CU, I'd play out the year with CU. Yes, for a year I'd make 2.7M versus 5.4M (or whatever the #'s are), but I'd keep my integrity and the likelihood of another opportunity the following year would have been very high, IMO. As it stands for him now, particularly if things don't go well in the B1G, he could flame out as a HC and be left with nothing but an integrity issue.
I guess I'd choose to bet on myself that things wouldn't go in the toilet for the additional year at CU. I'd look at the math as not a 15M loss, but perhaps a 2.7M loss with my integrity intact. But that's just me.
He went to, and graduated from CU Boulder.
He personally recruited several students to Boulder (I know, some of them were my students - and I knew several others).
Or, in other words, **** off - as you obviously have no clue what you're talking about.

Mel Tucker is viewed by many people (including many on this very board) as one of the top coaching prospects in the game. He had a subpar first year with meh players.
The market spoke. A university gave him EIGHTEEN MILLION DOLLARS more than what his contract was at Colorado. The AC pool is one of the absolute best. Anger is misdirected. Colorado being stuck in a terrible TV deal with our subpar conference is why we are where we are.
A liar with zero integrity. Take that word out of its mouth.

I’m confused why you’re defending this, like very confused. Money, sure. I actually took less money to switch jobs 8 months ago because I knew I would be less worked and happier in life.
hypothetical: I have a team I work with and I’m committed to them and them to me. We’ve all committed for the long haul on something that could potentially turn into something big if done right. Everybody says, “**** yeah, let’s do the work.”
Then there’s a rumor someone might quit but he says, “what! Never! I’m all in.”Then one day the mother ****er quits and leaves his workload for everyone else to pick up the slack and it’s like a week before a huge deadline because nobody can come on and take that spot that quickly and recover it.
I’m sure everyone around that situation would say, “Oh it’s all good, he got more money to quit.”
Some things in life are bigger than money. Anyways, let people have their opinion, just because it’s different, doesn’t make it wrong.

It’s like Mandel said on his podcast today, most pac 12 schools have budget restraints while big and sec schools have too much money to even know what to do with.
Very few in that profession would. There’s very little loyalty either way.
I ultimately just think people in that field tick differently than “normal” employees do.

he was unique and powerful in a room. High Integrity etc etc. but his decision can’t be undone. He may still be a decent coach. But what made him special is gone.

I am sad that Coach Tucker left Colorado. I do not think any rational person would honestly say no to obscene money and superior money for direct reports to take a different job. My real depression is over the fact that Colorado Football is likely permanently out of the National Championship conversation for good.

See you are just a bit off. Not your fault. Some of us actually played, so **** like this is more personal then it is to most.
That wasn't the market speaking, it was one stupid, desperate institution. They way overpaid and it inured to MT's benefit. I have no doubt that MT's actions yesterday increased MSU's offer. Unless he ****s a cheerleader or something, MSU is going to pay him $30+ million over 6 years. They got taken.
That’s fine and I condemn him for that also. But I understand his very basic decision and believe most of us would do the same. We can argue about the way he conducted himself, the style, the timing etc but I can relate to and understand the decision he made. I just wish he’d conducted himself differently.
