2021 Official Fall Camp Thread

Never take that much from a bowl game. Of course UT was bigger, faster and more talented. CU would need to rely on want-to and fierce desire and that rarely shows up in Bowl Games unless the underdog has a chip-on-their-shoulder prove-something attitude, ala Boise State normally does. CU team took a vacation to that game.
That’s a reflection of the dismal job the coaching staff did in preparing and motivating the team. This seems to be another argument against the “coach ‘em up” theory.

Sure it has. Got Landman and MJ back, and adding Barnes and Lamb. Another year for Lang, Sami, Rodman, Jordan and Murray. Wells is poised for an All Conference type season. The front seven should be pretty good, actually.
Achilles injuries are unpredictable, so I’m not counting on Landman until we see him play against aTm. That said, our front seven is legit with, or without him. We have speed and athleticism at LB, and we have enough capability in the 2 deep on the DL to have fresh legs on the field.

What is your definition of “legit”?

You listed 10 guys playing 7 positions. That’s not depth.
ILB - Landman, Barnes, Lamb, JVD, Ham
DL - MJ, Sami, Lang, Rodman, Jordan, Jackson, Toll
OLB - Wells, Thomas, Montgomery, Gustav, Alvin Williams

I think there are legitimately 4-5 guys in that group who are all conference type players and each starter has at least one backup with good experience and/or high potential.

I don't worry that much about the front seven or the starting secondary. Injuries to secondary would change things in a hurry.

Offense is the bigger issue. Sure, there is talent at several positions, but the depth is really lacking at certain positions. You add in questions about Chev as an OC over an entire season and I could see a lot conference defenses giving us fits.

You’ve now listed the depth chart. Depth means that the drop between the starters to the backups isn’t a nosedive. Especially at ILB and Interior DL, the you have major dropoff.

As always, I am willing to wager. You can have over 7.5 regular season wins at +400 for any amount (forfeits do not count). You must post.

When a team has never gone to a bowl game in their entire life, you get this often times. There's tons of history to back up this claim (don't trust bowl outcomes), and bad showings from coaches that are held in high esteem. I've seen it so many times.

I've seen Nebraska fans tell themselves they are back all winter because they beat Arizona decisively in a bowl game, 33-0. They weren't back, they hadn't turned a corner, they were still lousy. They were just more focused than Arizona for that holiday.

Manhattan is a character all right.....
Instead of taking you on at the Casa Bonita, he will take every piece of BTC you own!

The players and coaches stated explicitly that the program’s lack of bowl experience meant that they practiced hard and took the game seriously. The coaches collectively are paid many millions to motivate the team. They got whipped by a coach who was fired soon thereafter.

The Texas game was a reflection of Colorado’s reality: without better talent, we have no shot against even slightly above average quality opponents.

Making excuses for looking like a JV team does not prove the argument that the coaches are great motivators who coach up the players.

I only listed the guys who have experience or are young but were pretty talented recruits. None of those guys are nosedives.

I’m also not saying they are 8 game winners so I don’t know where that came from. I was just responding to your post that the depth hasn’t gotten better, when as a matter of fact, it has.

Ok. Not gonna debate further. When the injuries come, we’ll see who’s right. FTR, I hope that the team wins every game they play. I am not feeling the optimism about this season that many of you are espousing. I think this season will be a very long and extremely challenging one.

Maybe. Maybe the players really weren't all that motivated (down deep) and maybe UT was playing to save their coaching staff's job (which is very deep motivation)? I'm pretty sure that was true in fact and I've seen tons of very successful coaches fail to get their team up for a meaningless bowl game. We are just going to disagree on this one.

Our D was a 7 (10 scale) with Landman and a 2 without him last year. I’d rather lose another QB than healthy Landman this year, though D probably a 3.5 now without him.

Nebraska fans think they're back, turned the corner, and aren't lousy every year!

We can always bet if you wanna escrow.
Ha! I'd give CU less than a 5% chance at 8 wins and around 30-35% chance at 7 wins if they stay completely healthy and have some massive breaks. It's most certainly not only attainable because of a bunch of covid forfeits, though. They aren't Kansas bad.

5 or 6 wins and then we can talk.
